New neighbors

John has started thinking of this place as a sort of zoo. They're all kept according to species, fed, and looked at through the bars on occasion. By his assessment, he's one of the big predators. It would be flattering if it weren't awful. He's kept with the rest of those considered too terrible or dangerous to be safe. Today, for only the second time since his arrival, a new creature has been moved into their hall. Probably something deadly, he figures. Something that's 'a high risk to itself and others'.

The hospital's attempt to keep the patients 'socialized' is largely limited to the small windows between cells in this wing. And even those can be taken away. Blocked up. John only recently gained the privilege of having the extra padding removed from his walls and the window exposed. He has a cot now, too. Clearly, he's a very good boy. He wonders how decent his new neighbor is.
John kneels on said cot and shifts the small privacy curtain aside on his side of the window, then taps on the safety glass to get his neighbor to do the same.

"Oi. Avon calling."
