Along came a Spider...

The truly terrifying thing is that, when he truly wants to --has to-- Spider cleans up rather nicely. In the suit that was purchased for him to wear to award ceremonies and horn rimmed glasses over his blood shot eyes, he seems almost like a normal human being. Kelly is a very believable college grad student, carrying her digital camera and his ( Read more... )

As Spider and Query head down the hall, Eddie turns back to his cell. He gives off a long sigh, and leans back against the door, pinching the bridge of his nose.

There is a way out. There is a plan. She is NOT GOING TO RUIN THE PLAN. She knows what she's doing. There is a way out. Wait. Need out. Wait. There is a plan.

One, two long minutes pass, with silence from Harvey's side of the wall. Well, mostly silence -- if Eddie listens hard, he can hear muffled, hitched breathing.

After a good two minutes, enough time to guarantee that Spider's out of earshot? That explodes into sharp, whooping laughter. Yes! Yes! Oh, oh God, yes.

Yeah, Harvey, laugh, why don't you? Eddie's whole plan now hinges not on Query's competence, which he does not doubt, but on whether Spider Jerusalem goes and makes her recognizable or not. The plan! Oh, god, he needs to get out of here now.

He tries to pace the cell. There really isn't enough room. He taps on the window and tries to pace and there is no way out, if that idiot ruins it. That idiot that Query apparently thinks is fun. Why is Spider Jerusalem an acceptable replacement?!

"What, Harvey? I thought you -wanted- your prosecutions to go through."

Oh, give him another second or so to giggle a bit more, and get it out of his system? Then he'll practically bounce over to the window. "That was the agreement. They locked Judah up, there's no guarantee they'll stick to it. They could just bury us both, and never say another word. Now they'll have to try me. No more hiding."

Eddie flops down onto his bed and peers through the window. He is not giggling. "That's great for you, Harvey. This may have cost me my plan, you know." Not that he's one to admit that sort of thing, but he gets a bit of a smirk when he says it, so he can't be that concerned, right? Get out of here now get out get out now get out there is no way out... wait. There is a way out. "I need to get out of here, Harvey."

"You'll get out." He has no doubts about this. "I'll get out." And isn't that a cheerful thought. "You need to learn how to improvise."

"You don't think I can improvise? I can improvise. Just... augh, Spider Jerusalem." He laughs, and leans against the wall near the window. "I'll get out, and it will be spectacular. Ohmygod I can't stand it in here, Harvey. I can't stop thinking about being in here."

He does in fact think you can't improvise, Eddie, but he's not about to say that. Instead, he picks up and puts on his kicky paper hat again. "You'll get out. Just be patient."

Exactly what he's having problems with is being patient. "Yeah, yeah. ~Patient~. Patient. Right." He sighs melodramatically. "I don't like him very much, Harvey. He thinks he has me all figured out. If ~you~ weren't here, he would have gone off on some idiotic... thing about how I'm in here, and then he would have published it. I can't believe people pay him to write, I really can't."

"If I weren't here, a lot of things would be different." To state the obvious. He picks up his paper, and starts up tearing long, thin strips out of it again. "Don't let it get to you. You're a public figure now. You're going to attract press. Not all of it's going to be good."

"You're right, that's true. I've developed a specific aversion to him, and I shouldn't go into why. Ohhhh man. Haha. It's still worth it. This'll be worth it, too." He hmms, not quite amused, but appeased, at least. Then, he adds, "I hope all this gets Victor out of here, anyway."

Was that an unselfish sentiment, there? Egads!

Dear Lord. But don't worry, Eddie. Harvey won't tell a soul. "Yeah. He probably deserves it more than either of us." By simple virtue of time already served, not even going into his crimes or lack thereof.

"He's a sharp cookie. You were right, there, too." He doesn't agree that he deserves to be out any less than Victor, but he's not going to argue the point. "I can't stand this at all. It's only been two weeks. I want to... run laps, I don't know. Go hiking for a -day-. ~Then~ get to work. Oh my god this sucks so much."

Harvey grins down at the pile of paper strips. "Well, you'll get to do plenty of running once you're out."

"Oh, ha. Ha. Ha. If done correctly, this doesn't need to ~involve~ running. What are you making?"

"Basket. Or maybe a hat. It helps to keep my hands busy." Rip. Riiip. "And then you'll just bypass the Narrows completely. Or are you going to call your boss to come get you?"

He doesn't even sound particularly upset about Eddie's mob associations. Maybe a little bit teasing.
