Tilting at windmills

After bringing the clues to Daniel's apartment, Walter now has a partner and a good start in solving this mystery. The green flyers point towards a miniature golf course and, perchance, a windmill. Walter has never seen either thing up close and in person. As they stand at the attraction's entrance, he isn't sure how to even approach ( Read more... )

Daniel adjusts his messenger bag -- notebook, camera, small toolkit, and a fingerprint kit just in case, all inside -- and smiles reassuringly.

"Yeah, of course. Just for fun, you know? Or for silly parties." Not that he's done that. But... he has friends of friends. Aheh. "Come on."

To the counter he goes, handing over ten dollars for a club and a ball for the both of them. Since the information is so relevant, the colour of the ball he picks out of the bowlful is yellow.

Daniel's preparedness makes Walter feel less badly about not going back to his own apartment before heading to the course. Anything else he has at home that they may need could hardly be used during daylight like this, anyway.

He looks at the tiny club he's given, then scans over the basket of rainbow colored golf balls. What significance does the color have, anyway? Why are there no white? He thinks for a second, then takes a dark purple one. It's a regal color. He likes purple. He considered green, of course, but why play into their enemy's preferences?

"Are we actually going to play? I never have. I won't be very good, I don't think."
He's a fast learner, but has never played many sports.

He considers. Then shakes his head. "No, let's just look." They won't get arrested for just walking through a mini-golf course instead of playing, the way they would if they'd broken in. "Um..." He cranes his head, looking around. Windmill, windmill... God, this place is laid out weird. "This way, I think." If they just walk the regular course, they'll get to it eventually!

The walk-straight-through plan is good enough for Walter. Better than humiliating himself trying to play. He keeps his head up, craning to see the thing first and before his taller friend. Finally, he catches sight of one large, wooden blade arcing up from behind the visible peak of the eiffel tower.

"Over there, I think. I can see it turning."
He heads off towards it quickly, expecting Daniel to keep up. Should anything get in his way, Walter is grateful to be armed with a club.
