Morale [OPEN]

There's something going on in the courtyard in front of Wayne Tower, today. It's not a bomb threat, or a robbery, or a biological attack. It is, in fact, a festival, with live music and food kiosks and games. The whole thing is a joint effort by Wayne and Veidt Enterprises, with all proceeds going toward paying the medical bills and funeral ( Read more... )

One of the... perks of being Commissioner is that Jim is encouraged to go out to as many public appearances involving charities as he can. He's given the time off from work, and no one really complains if they see him wandering around one with a drink or a plate of food looking lost.

And since the police force was hit hard by the mold outbreak, Jim was encouraged to attend the festival. If by 'encouraged' you mean told that someone high up in the department should be there and as Jim didn't get sick he had no reason not to be there.

These things were easier with Barbara and the kids.

So, here's one, slightly grumpy Gotham Police Commissioner. Doesn't he look lonely?

He does. Poor guy. Maybe he'd feel better with his picture taken.

(Pickman, it must be said, would probably not be pursuing this course of action if he had any idea who Gordon was. But that's life for you.)

"Ey! Say cheese!"

Jim did not say cheese. He said something much less public appropriate.

But he doesn't look so much angry as confused... And a little blinded.

"You better be with a newspaper..." Or what? You can't arrest people for taking pictures in a public place, Jim.

Pickman does, in fact, have a press pass. But at this no-visible-gun-or-handcuffs point, he sees very little need to disclose this fact. "Whaaat? You shy, cupcake?"

Jim has been called 'cupcake' before. But as Pickman is not a 50 year old diner waitress and Jim is no longer a wet behind the ears beat cop, Pickman will not get a confused smile and a 'Just coffee, thank you ma'am'.

What Pickman will get is a slightly amused look coupled with a pushing back of Jim's jacket.. Which reveals his badge.

"Shy is not the word I'd use, no."

Ah, tourists.

Well. That's a funny look. Not quite I killed a man guilty, but... obviously regretting his previous words to the nice commissioner.

"Aw, fuck." He starts patting himself down, not reachign into his pockets just yet. "I got a press pass, okay? I'm, ah -- a photographer."

That will never get old. Ever. Part of Jim doesn't like that people are afraid of police, but part of him likes the instant 'I'm on my best behavior, really' reaction it gets.

"No need to panic, but maybe you should make sure the person you're pointing that thing at wants it pointed at them."

Granted, Jim is sure Pickman's heard that before. But he's also not interested in having to break up a fight if Pickman takes a picture of someone here who doesn't want it.

Well, it might make the day more interesting...

"That'd take half the point out've it, sir..." No, in fact, he can't keep his damn mouth shut if his life or freedom isn't in immediate danger. But at least he's giving enough of a nod to Jim's rank to maneuver his press pass half out of his pocket, enough for the commissioner to see the official logo and seal, if not his name.

"Can I get another one?"

Damn, damn, damn. Now if Jim refuses, it'll be all over the papers that 'Commissioner Gordon' refuses to be photographed at public events or some other such nonsense.

"Fine, fine..."

He'll wait for you to tell him what to do. Because he really isn't good at these things.

Oh, Jim. You have no idea what you've just encouraged, here.

"Smi-ile," he sing-songs, raising the camera again.

On the list of things that Pickman normally gets up to, taking pictures is probably the only thing Jim would want to encourage.

He will smile, but it looks like a 'why are you making me do this I have other things to be doing because I am very important, really, I swear.'

If you were really that important, sir, you'd be wearing a funny costume.

Flash!

He checks the camera's display. "Peachy fuckin' keen."

Jim's funny costume is at home. It's his police dress uniform and he only has to wear it to extremely special occasions.

And even then, he can normally just wear a suit.

As Pickman seems happy with that, Jim's going to attempt to sneak away. Unless he's stopped.

Awww. You're breaking his heart, here. But he'll let you go, Jim, this time, with a yellow grin and a cheeky little wave. "Seeya round, ossifer. Have a nice fair."
