Morale [OPEN]

There's something going on in the courtyard in front of Wayne Tower, today. It's not a bomb threat, or a robbery, or a biological attack. It is, in fact, a festival, with live music and food kiosks and games. The whole thing is a joint effort by Wayne and Veidt Enterprises, with all proceeds going toward paying the medical bills and funeral ( Read more... )

One of the... perks of being Commissioner is that Jim is encouraged to go out to as many public appearances involving charities as he can. He's given the time off from work, and no one really complains if they see him wandering around one with a drink or a plate of food looking lost.

And since the police force was hit hard by the mold outbreak, Jim was encouraged to attend the festival. If by 'encouraged' you mean told that someone high up in the department should be there and as Jim didn't get sick he had no reason not to be there.

These things were easier with Barbara and the kids.

So, here's one, slightly grumpy Gotham Police Commissioner. Doesn't he look lonely?

He does. Poor guy. Maybe he'd feel better with his picture taken.

(Pickman, it must be said, would probably not be pursuing this course of action if he had any idea who Gordon was. But that's life for you.)

"Ey! Say cheese!"

Flash!

Jim did not say cheese. He said something much less public appropriate.

But he doesn't look so much angry as confused... And a little blinded.

"You better be with a newspaper..." Or what? You can't arrest people for taking pictures in a public place, Jim.

Pickman does, in fact, have a press pass. But at this no-visible-gun-or-handcuffs point, he sees very little need to disclose this fact. "Whaaat? You shy, cupcake?"

Pickman (sporting a very kicky fedora) is here wandering about, taking pictures and stopping for sketches, or to talk to interesting human bodies.

He still looks a little worse for wear, one would have to assume from his bout with pizza-borne-death-mold and the ensuing fucking week babysitting himself and Spider through it, until he got fed up and dragged them both to a doctor -- but hey, it's over with and he isn't coughing up blood anymore, so that's good, right?

Livvie is dressed in standard 'not-starving college student not in class' attire. For some reason, when spotting Pickman, she does not shout Teacakes at the top of her lungs, wonder of wonders. Instead she walks up to him, like a normal person, and taps him on the shoulder (like an aforementioned normal person) and smiles. Like Livvie.

"You don't look so hot."

And here's Dib, following along behind her like a good dog boyfriend.

He may look a little paler than usual, somehow. And a little flushed, too. Which seems an odd and worrisome combination.

He'll just wave at Pickman.

"Hey, Livvicakes." He grins, wide and yellow. You could almost think he's happy to see her. Crazy. "Got holda some bad pizza."

He tips his head at Dib, behind her. "I, ah -- I could say the same for Spooky, there." Yeesh, kid. "You need some water?"

And for once, by some miracle, Bruce Wayne is actually attending an event he's sponsoring. It might be because it's for a good cause. Or because public events always bear keeping an eye on, just in case something happens. Or because it's not dark out, yet, and there's nowhere else he needs to be. Or... well, who knows? He's here, anyway, apparently just wandering around. Almost acting like some kind of not-obscenely-rich human being.

Wandering Bruce, have a wandering Jim. Who, despite the lovely atmosphere, looks bored out of his mind.

When Jim realizes he's going to walk right by Gotham's Prince, he quickly looks for an exit strategy. Seeing no where to run without drawing attention to himself, he just hopes Wayne doesn't recognize him and then try to organize a photo-op. Because Jim's had way to many camera's in his face already.

Well, Jim. You definitely won't be completely lucky --

"Commissioner Gordon!" Wayne smiles like the several billion dollars he's worth. "Anthony told me you'd be here. How're you finding everything?"

-- but you might still get one out of two? Bruce isn't calling the cameras over yet, anyway.

No Jim, there is not some other Commissioner Gordon standing behind you that Bruce Wayne might be talking to. So you have no reason to look around when the billionaire playboy calls out to you.

Jim puts on his best 'talking to rich socialites who really don't care about middle class cops' smile before answering.

"It all looks.. Very nice. All for a good cause and people look like they're enjoying themselves. This was very good of you, Mr. Wayne."

Good God, something normal to do on a normal Friday afternoon. Alex is, after so many months working at Arkham and living in this city, completly unused to this sort of thing. Funny how quickly you adjust to mayhem and chaos.

Of course she brought Molly, let her go play the games and wander the food kiosks on her own. But she's not stupid, she's keeping an eye out. Knows her godfather is around somewhere, keeping an eye out. There is not going to be a repeat of New Years Eve in the Drake family, thank you.

Keeping an eye out is, easily, disguised as people watching.

Today will not be a repeat of New Years Eve, because it's a completely different orderly wandering around near Dr. Drake this time.

Dib is attempting to figure out how he managed to get this much powdered sugar on him from one funnel cake.

And Livvie is giggling at him.

Oh, hay, someone she knows! Have a waving Livvie. "Hi Alex!"

Oh, look. Someone she knows and someone she vaguely works with. That gets a finger wave as she keeps an eye on the crowds. "Hi there." Amused glance at Dib. Oh that funnel cake.
