Life In Montana: Ringing in the New Year

Jan 02, 2007 16:56

Happy New Year to you all. Welcome to 2007. What? It doesn't look different from 2006? Not to me either. I have given up on the idea of making "resolutions" for many years now, because I learned very quickly long ago, that they are not something I stuck too, as most people dont.

I have found I work better making myself smaller shorter-termed goals. They have faster payouts, and I feel better about myself sooner rather than months later when I realize that I failed, once again.

Blah blah, anyway I wanted to talk about what it means to ring in the new year in Montana.

Bascially, the weather is questionable. Even though we had my predicted Brown Christmas, we got snow since then, and therefor some parts of the roads are still icy. Its always hard to tell if the snow will make an appearance on New Year's Eve or not, although it seems less and less likely.

This year I opted to stay home. I know I'm so filled with excitment I'm sure you are jealous.

Well, this town does not have a whole lot to do. One year I went to a party put on, and hosted by a radio station. It was at a hotel. There was a LOT of drinking.

I have also been out to the bar scene. Also a LOT of drinking.

One year, I even went out with a friend to some (even smaller) po-dunk town and there was... LOTS of drinking, and a very funny man (sober) singing karoke. "A weiner-wet, a weiner wet, a weeeeee ohhh weeee umm umm today" - he just wanted to say weiner, and no those aren't the words to the song, but more like what he sang.

At midnight, despite the laws and regulations, many light off fireworks. One year, I remember we ran to a nearby park and let off bottle rockets, and ran like hell. Bottle rockets are illegal here in Montana. Maybe I'm getting old or something, because as fun as that seemed at the time, I dont think I'll be doing that again anytime soon. Oh yes that year there was also a LOT of drinking and some drugs as it was a private party, and being so there was also a hot tub and some sex, but not sex in the hot tub. But that was a long time ago.

I don't drink. So, even though New Year's Eve is my favorite holiday, there is really not much of an appeal to the normal things people do on this day.

Forgive me for not wanting to drive in the drunken dark cold and possibly icy streets.

I think the best thing is staying up late, although I'd hardly call midnight late, its nice when people who don't normally stay up, do with you. My favorite word in spanish is medianoche or midnight.

Anyway I heard that only one person was put in jail for DUI on new year's.

I guess that's good, but I hardly believe that means there were no drunk drivers.

May the new year bring you all you desire.
