This confirms it. Sho is very much in love, and he’s fallen so hard he’s gone completely crazy.

If it wasn’t like that, he’d be on solid ground right now, safe, and not up in this plane and shaking from head to toe.

Jun, who's sitting next to him, knows about his nervousness more than he senses it. Aware that it’s impossible to soothe him at this stage, he tries to give Sho at least some confidence by placing a hand on his knee.

Sho lifts his head and finds his bright smile, so full of expectation it's almost more Aiba-before-a-concert-like than typical of this man in front of him in any other situation. But, of course, Jun’s in his element and it shows -this is the fifth time he jumps so far this year. In fact, if he’s particularly excited about the idea this time it’s only because at last, after several months using different techniques, he’s managed to bring Sho with him.

Under the plane, the city looks like a bunch of doll houses, barely distinguishable from each other as they gain altitude. Sho feels the lump in his throat growing each time they rise up and everything goes down, and he’s not sure he’ll be able not to faint before they reach the point from which they will jump.

He takes out his cell phone to try and get distracted. The last mails he's got are from Ohno and Aiba, who sent him courage, and Nino, who couldn’t and didn’t pass up the opportunity to laugh a bit at him.

Do you think you’ll reach the ground without breaking down? I just want to start doing some calculations to see how many games I can buy using Jun-kun’s money. I’ve just found a special offer and thanks to you I’ll make the most of it.

Don’t push yourself too hard, Sho-chan!

Nino.
Just like he did when he got it, right after changing clothes and before getting into the plane, Sho looks at Jun reproachfully. It’s been hard enough for him to take the decision for them to go and bet on it.

“I’ve told you not to worry. Nino’s treating us to lunch later,” Jun repeats to him. Seeing that Sho's expression doesn't soften, he adds, “You’ll be fine, Sho. After all, this isn’t your first time, is it?”

Sho perfectly remembers about the time when he parachuted for that wet clothes experiment on TV, six or seven years ago, and how much he hated it. Knowing that something like that -or even worse, since this time he is doing it from a higher point- awaits him again in a few minutes increases his anxiety rather than helps him calm down.

Jun searches for his hand and entwines his fingers with Sho's. The older man holds it tight and thinks that this time at least he’s doing it with someone he fully trusts and that he's doing it for him. Jun smiles at him again, now sweetly, and Sho, despite the pain at his stomach, the sweat and the shaking of his whole body, manages to smile back.

The plane goes down a little and the pilot makes a signal for them to proceed. With the help of their instructor, Sho and Jun get up and put on a harness that will keep them together; the older man is at the front, and the younger man behind him. Sho feels his heart jumping somewhere, but he doesn't know if it's at his throat or at his feet now. He starts a bit when Jun's hand rests on his waist. The younger man’s laugh sounds over the noises from the engine, and this time Sho's lips only quiver.

Once Jun's carrying the parachute on his back and he's listened to the instructions he practically knows by heart already, the instructor opens the door for them. A strong gust of wind welcomes them; while Jun lets out an exclamation, Sho gasps and feels his legs flagging as though they’re going to run away at any moment. He’s a couple of steps away from the edge and Jun’s pushing him bit by bit, keeping his hands on his waist. Sho arches his back and reaches unconsciously in a desperate attempt to cling to the door frame. Right now, Jun’s contact is all that keeps him standing, and it may be the only thing that keeps him conscious in two seconds.

“Jun, don’t let go of me,” he begs, whimpering, aware of how ridiculous he must sound right now. “Don’t let go of me, 'kay?”

“Alright, let’s go on three.”

“But don’t fuck around now!”

Jun keeps his promise and counts to three. After that, the floor of the plane and the whole plane disappear and they’re left at the mercy of gravity, falling at an unbelievable speed and breaking the air, like a superhero and the person he's just saved. Sho's eyes are closed tightly, and he's biting his lower lip so hard it's going to bleed. Jun's hands are still firm around his waist, and Sho grabs them as if his life depended on it.

Not even sixty seconds, maybe less than thirty, have passed when the fall becomes too long and Sho’s almost at his limit. He wants to keep screaming, but he finds no air in his lungs, and he only knows he’s breathing because he’s hearing his own panting inside his helmet.

On his back, Jun’s screaming as if he was riding on a roller coaster, definitely wearing the same grin as before; Sho is thankful that at least he isn't doing flips and all that stuff he likes to do while being tied to him.

“Sho!” he calls, and Sho manages to move his head a bit as an answer. “Sho, look, open your eyes!”

“I can’t!” Sho yells; his throat's completely dried.

“Yes, you can, you have to! Look!”

Making a great effort, Sho opens his eyes a bit, enough to see the sky around him, pale blue and tinted with gold from the sunlight on their back. The day is almost clear, with a few clouds condensed into a grayish, wet dust that surrounds them like the mist in a dream. From the corner of his eye, Sho sees the patchwork of buildings and fields coming closer and faster, as if he was zooming in on a three-dimensional map. This image makes him dizzy.

Jun feels him curling up against him and lifts his hand for a second to point at the distance.

“The sea!”

Sho tears his eyes away from the ground and squints to observe the coast. The sun reflects on the dark waters and leaves sparkles on their surface, like tiny precious gems crowned by the surf. It’s a breathtaking sight. Even though it’s impossible under the deafening noises of the wind, Sho believes he’s hearing the sound of water and the seagulls soaring over the beach. For a short instant, but enough for all this to be worthy, he relaxes and enjoys it his way. Jun goes from holding to hugging him, while the two of them keep on falling and swinging in the air.

Sho feels the tug when Jun opens their parachute, and his stomach seems to return slowly to its original place as soon as they go back to a vertical position and start descending at a lower speed. The outline of the track from where the plane took off becomes clearer as they go down. Right next to it there's a portion of land covered with a canvas, in which they’re supposed to land.

“Stretch out your legs,” Jun tells him as they glide over the roof of a close building.

It’s then when Sho realizes his limbs have stiffened up and his body’s bended forward, kind of like a mannequin, but he still succeeds at straightening up before landing. His feet drag a little while Jun gives short and fast steps, until they reduce their speed and come to a halt a bit away from the center of the canvas.

To prevent Sho from collapsing onto the floor, Jun unfastens their harness and puts his arm around his shoulders. Sho pants and sighs at the same time, both exhausted and dead impressed with the unbelievable thing he’s just done. He looks at the sky as if it were another world.

“That’s it, you’ve made it!” Jun congratulates him, shaking his body lightly.

“Yeah…” Sho replies in a whisper, gulping for the first time in what seems a lot, too much time.

Jun takes him to the changing rooms and Sho flops down on a bench, his head leaning against the wall in an attempt to keep it on its place, without even taking off his helmet. From the mirror at the other side of the room, a pale face is staring at him, its eyes brimming with tears. He laughs a bit to himself, and feels the lump formed by his stomach and intestines squirming.

Five minutes later, Jun comes out of his cubicle, crouches down in front of him and looks at him with a worried expression. Sho leans a bit forward and lets him remove his helmet; Jun places a warm hand on his cheek, caresses it gently with his thumb and cranes his neck to kiss his lips.

“Did you like it?” he asks Sho after sitting next to him.

Sho nods, pausing some seconds to get his breath back, and Jun smirks with pleasure.

Definitely, he’s crazy for him. He's so crazy that, even in his current state, he still has the strength to go even higher.

However, he prefers to keep it to himself for now.

“But I’d rather have Nino treat us to lunch tomorrow."
