She was drumming her fingers on the tv table in front of her. A big spoon lay next to a dozen maternal magazines that were sprawled across the table. Her other hand was resting on her growing stomach that was known as ‘Baby Queen’ within their circle of friends and family.
She huffed in irritation. Grumbling about ‘stupid super heroes’ who ‘couldn’t even complete a baby mission’, she tried to lift herself out of the sofa she was sitting on. Without much success. “Arrrggg!” sounded her aggravation through the empty living room.
“Claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaark!” screamed Chloe impatiently into the empty room. She waited five seconds before a handsome man in blue and red spandex flew into the living room through the huge balcony. “Finally!” she snapped and held out her hands to him eagerly.
Hesitantly Superman, or Clark Kent as he was known to his friends of the League, handed two ice cream boxes to the pregnant woman he called long time best friend. “Errr… Chlo? I’m…” he started, yet didn’t finish because she started to sob upon seeing the package cover.
“You hate meeeeee!” she screeched.
“No, Chloe! I just didn’t find the right flavours…” he replied desperate for her to believe him and to stop her hormonal induced crying.
She sobbed and sniffed a little more before attempting to talk again. “Strawberry mint and lemon chocolate… how hard is it to find that flavours … You’re Superman for crying out loud! Use your alien powers for something good!!!” she screamed heated, in between sobs of desperation. “I have cravings! Do you know what that feels like?” she started only to be interrupted by a red blur materialising Bart in front of them.
“Hey, Chloelicious! Guess who got you some?” he said with a boyish smirk, amused over his own joke.
“Thank god! Give me!!!” she said, and yet again held out her hands eagerly to the younger man, having forgotten her desperation und upset mood from a few minutes ago.
The younger man did just that, with a big and happy smile on his face, his chest huffed out in pride over having bested Superman where it really counted.
Only, his big smile fell when Chloe started crying again. “You are soooo mean!” she started. Sobbing and screwing her face into an unhappy frown. “No one likes me! If anyone did…” sniff “then someone would have gotten me the right flavoured ice-cream!”
“Mama-cicka! Didn’t you want Lemongrass and strawberry chocolate?” asked Bart confused.
“Nooooooo!” cried Chloe biting her lips because the cravings were getting unbearable. She couldn’t stand it any longer… She was sure she’d die in a moment or two.
Suddenly two packs of ice-cream were shoved in front of her. She looked up confused to see the face of her husband and father of her unborn child, Oliver, having a big arrogant smile on his face. “Now, who’s the best superhero?” he asked cocky.
Chloe didn’t reply right away, only opened the ice-cream boxes and tried the contents with the big spoon that finally had a purpose. Her eyes widened when her taste buds recognised the flavour. She sprang up, having forgotten her prior unhappiness, or that she hadn’t been able to lift herself up before, and flew into Oliver’s awaiting arms, peppering him with kisses all over his face.
Bart and Clark were very familiar with the signs of not being wanted in the room, especially when the light, butterfly kisses Chloe gave Oliver suddenly turned into longer, deeper ones. Both superheroes made their getaway long before Oliver received his ‘thanks’ from Chloe for not only being ‘the best superhero’ around, but also from ‘saving her from an agonizing, crave-filled, slow and painful death’.
