It's not the crocus or the grape hyacinths popping through the ground that are the first signs of spring, in my town, but the new road construction notices/barriers/detours.
On the first day of March Break, I along with my neighbours, were greeted with a flyer in our mailboxes informing us that our street would be dug up and inaccessible for street parking for the next 16 weeks. I'm lucky that I have parking in the side alley behind my house (though that has its own issues and problems) but I don't know what my neighbours, who depend on on-street parking, are going to do, during that time.
Time to put up the home made cardboard 'Private Property/Parking' sign on the wire mesh fence, I guess. Because I HAVE experienced coming home at the end of the day to find a car parked diagonally right in the middle of my parking area. They were lucky that I didn't call the tow truck on them as I had the right to.
The first of the concrete diggers and orange and black construction cones appeared today on my block.
Only 15 weeks (fingers crossed) to go.
