It looks very homely indeed. (And very delicious too!). Now looking at your carrots, I remembered that there is one carrot dish that falls into my comfort food category list. I will post it soon, so I will not reveal it now (it's very simple though!).
My comfort dishes are very weird, some are Japanese (such as korokke) even though I cook Japanese only for several years, some Polish (my curd cheese cheesecake). I must feel much worse in cold months because autumn and winter are the season when I cook comfort food most often! (I must post some recipes, thank you for reminding me!). I've wanted to make korokke for some time now. My mom used to make a kind of mashed potato and shredded chicken patty which seems similar in taste to one of the ones I've seen posted. I'm going to check out your curd cheese cheesecake. I've only ever made them with cream cheese so this would definitely be a new taste experience.

PS: I look forward to the carrot dish.

Ha, comfort food - I actually just made one of my favourite comfort foods on Saturday and have it queued up for posting on Thursday, although I do think you often can't beat a jacket potato with EVERYTHING on top for the ultimate comfort. Butter, mustard, feta cheese, itty bit of mayo, sliced cucumber, celery and red pepper, baked beans and lettuce. Oh yes!

A good baked potato rocks. So many different toppings are possible ... butter, sour cream, crispy bacon, green onion, grated cheddar cheese, a spicy batch of chili are among my favourites.

I thought you'd mention a great Hungarian dish your mom or grandmother made to make me salivate. :)

Comfort food... definitely my mom's Korokke (how funny Sissi mentioned this as comfort food too, which made me happy!). But I actually feel so "at home" when I have a bowl of good Japanese rice. Not just any rice, really good rice... :) My son today asked me to make mashed potatoes. I didn't grow up eating mushed potatoes and not even sure what's the most delicious way to make it (besides typical approach). Your meal looks very comforting and it's the time of year when we want some comfort meal!

There are so many things my mom used to make that I'd call comfort food in retrospect. Every once in a while, I get a craving and try to reproduce one. :)

My mashed potatoes isn't fancy. The traditional method with some roasted garlic mashed in is very satisfying. And it HAS to be made fresh. Leftover mashed potatoes are best made into patties and pan fried. With some shredded chicken in it, as I mentioned earlier. :)
