Movie Review: Pirate Radio

Nov 17, 2009 22:18

Man, that was delightful. The movie is very loosely based on truth - in the sixties, British controlled radio refused to play rock music. As a result, pirate boats set anchor off of Britian's shore and played rock 24-7. In the movie, a very evil, very over the top evil cabinet member makes it his business to shut them down.

The movie is a comedy. All the character are somewhat exaggerated. And yet, the movie gets the spirit of those times exactly right - when rock 'n' roll brought everyone together and the music itself breathed life into people.

The soundtrack is killer (and I owned almost every song played.) And at the end, over the credits, they show album covers, not just from the sixties but right through today. And with almost every one that flashed on the screen, I yelled out, "I own that one."

I can't imagine living without music and this movie just gets that vibe exactly right.
