Fandom crash theories
So yesterday I got thinking (as I was putting together a drawer unit, as you do) about the whole Molly thing - what if Gene isn't Alex's mental construct? What if it's Molly?
Nuts? Probably, but then I got to thinking about SG1's Grace, where Sam Carter finds herself alone on a spaceship and experiences visions of a young girl. Grace's identity is never revealed - she could be an alien or Sam's own inner child - but she represents a life choice for Sam.
I'm not sure how this actually pans out in Alex's world, but I keep thinking about her parents' death and her being carried as a child. Only that would make Alex an older construct of Molly and ow, my brain hurts now.
Then Doctor Who happened. A dream within a dream and a choice between reality and fantasy. Only both options were actually dreams and reality was another world altogether.
And again, choice was the big issue, just as it was in LoM. But I do wonder if Alex's "now", her life with Molly, is her perfect world and not the real one. If Molly was real, I'd question Alex forgetting her, but if she were imaginary...
Actually, the more I think about this, the more convinced I become. Gene shot Alex in the stomach. What if Alex unconsciously thinks she can't have children now? It's a perfectly reasonable thought to come up with, but having come to that conclusion, she suddenly stops "remembering" Molly. The child she can't have now (at least, in her head).
