This is not happening in the U.S., so I can't even complain about wussy kids in the U.S. Still, my job gives me stress. Therefore, can I just not work? My boss ought to give me 4 hours worth of work to fill an 8 hour workday so I can work slowly and stress-free with no worries about meeting deadlines and stupid stuff like that. I mean, this is bad for my health, alright? What about adults' mental health?
Won't someone care about us? This is beyond coddling and the world is going to have a future where the workforce can't handle "stress" because they've grown up with no "stress".
Anyways, let me get back to talking about fictional things that are (hopefully) less rage-inducing. A couple of nights ago, we watched Real, a Japanese movie about going into someone's subconscious using a technology they call "sensing".
The first half of this movie is so good! Which probably made it suck all the more when the second half Crazy Monkey takes over writing credits.
The movie is about Koichi (Takeru Sato) using sensing to try and wake up his comatose wife Atsumi (Haruka Ayase), who had committed suicide despite the two of them seeming to lead a normal, loving life. Koichi tries several sensing sessions to see what would snap his wife out of it. Atsumi mentions several times about a childhood drawing she did of a Plesiosaur so Koichi tries to find this drawing in real life so that it can hopefully help. Through it all, Kocihi starts seeing weird glitchy stuff in real life that the doctors assures him were just hallucinations cased by using sensing and should just go away.
Again, the first half of the movie is great. The pacing, mood, and visuals are all great. As they're exploring someone's mind, there are scenes where objects would be out of place or people would seem off, etc.
Koichi also encounters these philosophical zombies, people populated by Atsumi's mind in her unconscious state where they're just blank slates that are there.
I mean, look at that creepster! I said it looks like a Sim, but probably Henry said it best in that it looks like those random people in Assassin's Creed games where they look find from afar but a closeup is like a horror show.
Then comes the "twist" and the second half of the movie goes off the rails crazy (not in a good way). The actual twist itself is fine. It's actually pretty good. But then what comes after is just uninteresting and such a let down after the first half. Let's just say it involves Atsumi taking a turn at sensing (which is just a short rehash of the first half of the movie), a creepy, way too dedicated doctor, a bro plesiosaur (cause why not?) with crummy character motivation (I can't believe this movie makes me expect a plesiosaur to have character motivation).
"Hey, need a ride?"
So I would say, watch the first half of the movie and, after the twist, come up with your own ending!
And since we started watching a new drama, it's time for a drinking game!
Take a tiny sip when:
* Common things that are easy to find in real life are CGIed (ie. common real life animals, handkerchief, water)
* Kingdom is full of fail
Take a normal sip when:
* Things are "whimsical"
* RPG elements (ie. weapons of power, people party up, people level up)
Take a gulp when:
* China's Greatest Actor over-acts
Since we've only watched one episode, I'm sure I can add more specific rules as time goes on.
