Author's note: I got an sms today from my hunney informing me that it was raining in Hamburg. And when I looked outside the window, it was cloudy in Yerevan. And suddenly I was inspired to write a story, only I had another pairing and another idea in mind, but when I sat down to write, this was the result. It's not beta'd, but I hope you're used to that by now :P Try to enjoy it, even if it sucks xD
-The past, the present and the family -
The rain drops hit the glass window of his one-room apartment, filling the otherwise quiet room with the taping sound at the glass.
The lonely man sat on the windowsill, watching the grey, cloudy sky while he smoked in silence. There was something in the gloomy sky that brought peace to his heart. The sky was crying for him - instead of him.
Life was unfair. That was a lesson he learned the hard way. Separated from the ones he loved by force at the tender age of six. His friends and teachers at the orphanage, the only real family he had ever known.
His adopting parents were nice people, he had no doubt. But said nice people forbid him from remembering his past. Using sweet, loving ways to make him forget; in way forcing him to forget about where he had came from, and making him live his new life as if it was originally his.
All he could do was to pretend he had put his past behind and moved on with the new life his new family had chosen for him. But deep within his heart he knew he could never forget where he came from. He was still an orphan even after thirty years. He was still the same little boy from the orphanage. Seeking the love of the people who had taken him into their loving arms after his mother had abandoned him at the doorstep of the facility.
His adopting parents had given him a second life, a new and quite comfortable one. Any other person would have been happy to have the life he had. Rich parents, the best schools and university, which earned him a degree in forensics. He was one of the best forensic investigators in the city. One who had been recruited by the national intelligence agency to help them with their most difficult crime investigations.
For the eyes of an outsider, his life was perfect. A well-paying job, an apartment he owned though small, but he had chosen it to be so- and a girlfriend whom he loved.
But there was still something missing in his life.
With all the comfort he had created for himself, he found that life isn't just about working and saving money to spend later on the person he loved. No. There was another thing that occupied his mind these days.
He wanted a family to call his own.
A true family.
Getting up from where he was sitting at the window, he pressed the remains of the cigarette into the ashtray and walked over to his desk, pulling the drawer open and taking out a small red box. Opening it, he looked at the ring he had bought a day earlier. A platinum ring with a golden lily on it, and a small diamond placed in the center of the flower.
He knew women liked big diamonds, and he would get her a bigger one some time later in the future. But for what he had in mind, this was beautiful, especially when the ring held a special meaning for him.
He had first met her at the orphanage, and they had been best friends ever since they first lay eye on each other. Young children they were back then, separated by fate, and reunited by fate twenty-five years later.
Lily was her name. His first and only love since he was four years old. One day he was at a crime scene, assisting the investigators in collecting evidence, and there she was, curled up on a couch and wrapped in a warm blanket while an officer tried to ask her questions about the incident.
They recognized each other from the first time their eyes had met that day. And ever since, they had been together. Friendship developing into something more and eventually reviving the love they shared as children, only it was different this time. It had become romance between two adult individuals who had found a missing part of their selves in the other.
Putting the red box into his pocket, he put his coat on and went to her apartment. Driving through the rainy streets with a mild smile on his lips, knowing that this is what he wanted, and hoping that this is something she wanted as well.
He wasn't surprised when she answered his question with a yes', but even so he felt extremely happy. Even happier than when he was first reunited with her five years ago.
He was going to have a new family, and he would have children with Lily. Will raise them with the same love he had received at the orphanage and at his adopting parents' house. He will never abandon them like his real parents had done to him when he was born. And he will never sweetly force them to forget something they would grow to love, no matter what his personal opinion of it would be in the future.
He was going to be a loving and caring husband and father. To him that was worth more than anything else in life.
