Warm Fuzzies

So much happens so fast, there's not enough time to write about it all.

old_cutter_john and I are back from vacation. As usual, we thoroughly enjoyed adventuring together.

It was so wonderful being with nickykaa for his thirty-eigth birthday. About twenty-five people showed up for his birthday dinner, despite the fact that it was a holiday weekend. It's because he's an excellent teacher and such a good friend himself. (I guess I'm not hiding the fact that I'm a proud mom.) Anyway, everyone at the gathering was warm and friendly, and there were lots of hugs.

It was also wonderful being with Dragon Lady again. If you read nickykaa's last journal entry, you know that it's a girl! nickykaa and Dragon Lady really wanted a girl, so we're all happy. It was amazing seeing the ultrasound pictures, the clearest I've ever seen. She's already beautifully developed! I had so much fun going with Dragon Lady, her best friend Niki, and Niki's five-month-old daughter, to a huge family-owned store full of baby things, to choose items for the coming baby. The coming daughter is very lucky to already be well loved and cared about by her parents, grandparents and friends. Both nickykaa and Dragon Lady have strong, healthy qualities to bring to parenthood.

After Berkeley, old_cutter_john and I went hiking in Kings Canyon National Park. The scenery was awesome! On our nine-mile hike to Mist Falls and back, we saw a buck, a doe, beautiful butterflies and flowers. The river was rushing and the falls were magnificent. I'm glad we both enjoy this kind of thing.

Before our trip, we joined Kiki, CrashRescue and Lurkuu for Sarai's second birthday celebration. It was the first time that Sarai enjoyed being the birthday girl. Her eyes glistened with joy as CrashRescue lit two candles on the ice cream cake that Lukruu had decorated. She blew out the candles in two puffs and then wanted CrashRescue to light them again. Then she put her spoon right into the cake and completely surprised me by turning around to me, opening her mouth very wide and putting the spoonful of cake into my mouth! Then she took some for herself. After that she ate a little more and then had CrashRescue light the candles eight or nine more times. It was so much fun!

During our trip I found myself with many thoughts about love and relationships. I plan to put them down in another journal entry as soon as I have time. Right now I have to get ready to return to work. I have a new supervisor who made a very good first impression on me. I believe she won't be afraid to speak up for the therapists with regard to the many issues that need to be worked out with the upper administration, most of whom profess to have the clients' interests at heart, but who actually block our efforts to help the clients.
