Goodbye Charmed

So Charmed is over. Something that was a major part of my life (espically around season 3-5) is gone. I finally downloaded and watched the finale last night.

I have to say I'm disappointed with it. I much prefered 'Something Wicca This Way Goes' because that foused so much more on the Charmed ones themselves. Seriously the way season 8 went I don't think the WB should have renewed the show, they simply should have cancled it eariler so the writers could have had a chance to wrap up everything properly in the season 7 final.

Forever Charmed was crap. It was all way too sugar coated for my liking. The 'happy ending' so to speak just made me gag a little. It was sort of like fan fiction how you sometimes get stories which just focus on the sisters love lives, not that those stories are bad or anything, just not what I really wanted in the finale. I didn't mind the ending of SWTWG as it did mean that there was little chance of demons or other things (eg the police) coming after them. Sure in KBv2 the demon said that the Charmed Ones are just too powerful to fight - and the demon community have realised that, but it doesn't really mean that the stupid or the power mad ones won't try. There was no definitive classification that the regine (sp?) of the Charmed ones was truley over.

And the ultimate battle? What ultimate battle? That was erased so to speak. It only happened in Piper, Bille and Leo's minds now. The 'battle' between the Triad, Damain and Christy really wasn't particularly interesting. And Billie killing her own sister, that's pretty damm signficant for her character and we just left her there! I hated Billie there was not one moment during season 8 I liked her. She was a way for there still to be magic in the show without the sisters having to do much magic themselves.

Which reminds me - other than the whole 'wedding' premmintion Phoebe received did she ever use her 'powers' at all? She never even got levitation or empathy back. (Not that I'm not glad that empathy never came back I had issues with that one) But argh. Plus Piper barly used her freezing power either. Personally I would have had all three girls use their powers in the episode rather than spells and potions etc.

Going back to the finale and Piper's little time travel bit. Ugh. It was half alright half a very bad idea. I get that Charmed has always been about family and that was the idea behind getting the entire Charmed family together (or as much as possible) for the finale. However  the show is also meant to be about the sisters not the Mother, Father, Grandmother and Sons as well. There ended up being too many people in the episode to have any real focus on what the show was meant to be about. There was no huge moment to give credit to the fact that Contance created a show based on her own experiences about her and her sisters! Even the final few scenes showing the future showed the sisters growing apart, yes this had to happen espically if they don't need to be magically together anymore, but I would have really liked to seen some sisterly moment in there somewhere.

As for the whole Prue thing - this perhaps was something that at least Kern remembered to put into the episode. There were a couple of references to Prue, but I don't understand why they couldn't show her. I don't mean showing Shannen, but perhaps Grams could have been talking with Prue rather than Piper. It still would have fit the scene and still invoked similar emotions in Piper, so why not?

My main issue with the episode though is simply the fact there wasn't much focus on the sisters at all in the end.  SWTWG was basically just the sisters and Leo vs Zanku (sp?) and it worked. There was more stuff that could have been in that episode of course, but it was much better than Kern's second go at it.

I'll end this 'review' on a postive note; the door closing at the end was cute. Someone pointed out that the little girl so looked like Prue's reincarnation and another person noted that the little girl is meant to be Melinda (Pruedence Halliwell) which was Piper's daughter in the future. The door closed similar to the way it closed in the pilot so it was nice rounding. I like circles.

fin.
