Back Aboard Voyager

Hoo boy, what a week.

The mission didn't go quite like I expected. The forecast wasn't as accurate as Seven (seven_of_nine) predicted, but that wasn't her fault. The storms were highly unpredictable. I had to keep my eye on the ball several hours at a time until the storms calmed down, then they'd flare up again ( Read more... )

I can't wait until he hits the entry I renamed 'Alfred Matthew Yankovic'.

Mr. Paris, if you ever, and I do mean ever, play music by that artist (and here I use 'artist' in the loosest sense of the word) within my hearing range, you will come to regret it. Quickly.

Why?
I thought you'd actually smile at 'Party at the Leper Colony' too.
Levity helps any situation's gravity Doc.

I'm inclined to agree with you, Doctor. Tom's musical tastes leave much to be desired. I'll be in Engineering. Don't worry -- I'll understand if Tom ends up wearing his tongue as a belt.

And what was the music you played last time in your quarters?

It sounded sort of like a Klingon Opera.

Whichever one it is, I'm trying to appreciate them as much as you do, but it's hard hitting the right phonetic sounds singing along. For a human anyway.

I do not listen to Klingon opera by choice; if I remember correctly, you were the one who found "The Ballad of Lukara" and insisted on playing it while I was reviewing the transwarp schematics.

I'm sure there are tutorial programs in the holodeck. Feel free to listen to "The Ballad of Lukara" or "Maidens at the River of Blood" there. I'm not interested in your Klingon "re-education" programs.

Well, it was in your database.

I'm only trying to understand through "re-education" to better understand your family line and customs better. Okay, the fighting simulations are fun too, but learning Klingon customs is a different thing for me.
It's pretty alienating to feel like an outsider looking in, no pun intended.

It was in the communal database.

I understand that, but don't push me. You know my Klingon side has given me nothing but trouble. The less I have to do with it, the better.

At the risk of sounding like the Doc, it's still a part of you, even if you see it as more of a problem than a good thing.

But I could keep my 'studies' to a minimum if that's what you'd like me to do.

Please. I'll deal with this on my time and in my own way. I know you mean well, but this is something very personal and I need to figure this out in my own way.

I can understand. I'll keep it to my own holodeck time, but if you want to join me, you know you're always welcome to.

How? By hearing you singing along to the next song?

If it was anything but an Opera, I'd hardly regret hearing it.
