Friday night:

Ring Ring...
"We're all at the beach...why aren't you here again?"

Yep, it was my cousin Erick giving me a call in a last ditch attempt to get my to drive down to Ocean City, MD for the weekend. And it totally worked.

I met them at Rehobeth beach at about midnight on Friday just in time for some late night ice cream on the boardwalk. And by them, well, I mean them. As in plural. Very plural. The entire Goldberg clan was there, and with my addition, we totaled to about 30 people. I thought our waiter at Phillips was going to start crying.

But it was a fantastic couple of days. Saturday was spent laying on the beach, eating food, and watching the huge bone-crushing waves with horror. My favorite part? A toss up between a group sing-along of 'Build Me Up Buttercup' while playing really terrible volleyball, being included in the family beach pictures, and receiving a piece of ice cream cake while being loudly serenaded with 'Happy Birthday'. Sunday was even lazier. i joined my youger cousins Kevin and Lauren in the ocean and swimming pool, and re-lived the favored childhood pastime of digging in the sand for crabs. Everyone was wonderful. Oh sure, there were minor family dramas and in-fighting. But the overall tone of the group was very warm and welcoming. Almost...Leave it to Beaverish at some parts. Picture a bunch of teenagers surrounding their grandfather while listening to his stories, or the baby being passed from one cousin to the other as they fought for his attention. It was very sweet (and a bit discerning) to see.

And for the record, I am totally an AC/Ocean City Jersey girl. The beaches are much less crowded and the waves are smaller. And the boardwalk? No contest. Ocean City, MD is dirtier and the people are much sleezier. Probably has something to do with all the bars and alcohol. And can someone explain why there were sand sculptures of Jesus? Though, on a familial side note, the Haven Hotel, located across from the naked and dying sand Jesus was originally built by my grandfather's brother, my great uncle. Yay fun facts! Plus, we met up with another family member who will be studying in London right around the corner from me and is trying to get a job at Christie's or Sotheby's. Obviously, we exchanged email addresses.

Speaking of London, things are moving right along. I applied online for my visa and just mailed in my support documentation, and I will be wiring over my last school payment at the end of next week. Now I just need to figure out some damn housing!

Going to see James and Laura this weekend! Yay! Yay again! It's time for my yearly visit and I am so excited! Flying into Pittsburgh Thursday night and staying until Monday evening, which will be awesome. Can't wait to make dirty jokes, visit classy martini bars, and go swimming. Plus, two days off of work (which has slowly become horrible). Squee!!
