Vanish

"The true magic of this broken world lay in the ability of the things it contained to vanish, to become so thoroughly lost, that they might never have existed in the first place." The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, by Michael Chabon.

I'm an expert on vanishing. Cause I'm here, there, everywhere. And I know all about people, places, and things vanishing...disappearing...going missing... never being seen again. More things have existed in the past than the human mind could possibly comprehend. But when species become extinct, they usually become forgotten. And more things go extinct every day. And not just things, but languages. But everyone should learn to speak English anyway, so I really don't care.

Anyhow, in terms of humans. No matter how many humans die. No matter how many wars. All the death, destruction, and mayhem. Humans always find a way to survive. Guess you could say, they are very much like the cockroach. Humans have a tendency too become more and more infested throughout the world.

Yet even if humanity as a whole has a way of enduring. As for individual humans. They go missing all the time. Even some of the most famous people of their times, can be at the top of the world one day, then be a forgotten footnote of history the next. Amelia Earhart is probably the most well known missing person in history. She gone missing 70 years ago. And as great and famous as she was in life. She became even more famous by vanishing. Becoming a missing person, made her a legend. Left her remembered forever the same as she was. Forever in her prime. Forever leaving people wondering what happened to her, or if she found a way to survive. And yeah I know what happened to her. But I'm not telling, cause it's a secret. So vanishing or disappearing isn't always a bad thing.

Yet, for most, disappearing is a bad thing. Most that go missing, are forgotten soon after. Those that had no loved ones. For those lonely souls that have nobody to remember them. It is as if they might never have existed in the first place. I almost pity those. Almost.
