Oh hai!
Time for my annual update of auld man journal which, looking back, I've had for nearly TEN fucking years! I genuinely feel no different from my 16 year old self. Anyway, I'm in Australia! After spending more or less all of last year working, Sue and I finally made it over. We bought our tickets around November time, although we encountered a small hiccup around the end of that month as we found out our contracts at Headland weren't being renewed as they had absolutely no work. So we were shitting it wee bit as it left us with the prospect of nae work for a couple of months before leaving, but luckily I managed to get a few weeks work with GUARD Archaeology that led up to Christmas and half of January so that kept me going. Spent most of the time watching a digger occasionally strip soil so it wasn't particularly riveting but since I spent a hell of a lot of time in the van reading a book waiting for something to happen, I can't really complain.
Christmas was a bit of shambles, I was the only one in the house that wasn't feeling like crap, and Lindsay ended up getting taken into hospital that night and again the following night because of a kidney infection. New year was uncharacteristically good! Went up to Katie Murphy's flat and brought in the bells there and then headed to Rossy's gaff with Pokey and Andy. After getting the boot from there due to everyone KO'ing, we ended up back at Pokey's flat where were joined by everyone else who was at Katie's. Hamed it about 6.30.
Aye. Left Glesga on the 25th of January and embarked on a punishing 24 hour journey, which wasn't actually that bad now that I think about it. Got to go on the new Airbus that carries like 500 folk which was cool, although there were 2 REALLY fucking annoying old Liverpudlian burds sitting behind us who just complained for the entire 13 hour flight to Singapore. Arrived in Perth around 1am. Took a good week to start feeling normal again, and also for it to sink in that we were in Australia at all. The 41 degree heatwave made it a bit of a trial as well. The first month was pretty stressful with trying to get a place to stay, sort out work and stuff, but it eventually came together quite nicely. Work is good, although our first trip away was absolutely fucking boiling and it took a while to adjust. Good experience and all that though. We've managed to do some touristy stuff as well which has been a bit of a bonus, but I want to do a bit more exploring. Hopefully gonna head to Sydney for a wee trip and head down to Margaret River at some point.
AYE! So that's been it in a nutshell. Today I decided to finally abandon my £10 out of Tesco mobile and buy a smartphone, which I successfully did, but it turns out the fucking SIM card is a dud so I'll have to go back tomorrow and get a new one. Woe is me, let me tell you.
It's about time for some delicious frozen chicken and chips, I believe. BYE!
