New Year's 2007-Xin Nian Kuai Le!!!

Well, 2006 has definitely been an incredible year, but I have a feeling that 2007 will be even better!! I can honestly say that this was one of the best New Year’s that I have ever had! Even though I was a bit homesick around Christmas time, the nostalgia and sadness soon faded! As I said before, I have had the best of times and the worst of times here in Taipei, but now looking back there is absolutely nothing that I would have changed about my experience!

I celebrated Christmas with my co-workers Tony, and Alana up in the mountains. Alana’s mom was here for the holidays, and it was definitely a treat to have a mother figure during this time! We had a delicious dinner up in Yungminshan, at one of my favorite restaurants. We sat on an outdoor patio, looking down into the glistening blanket of Taipei lights. At around 10, the restaurant hosted their very own fireworks show! I was screaming for most of the display, because I thought that the fireworks were going to blast into my face…haha! It was all very exciting!

On the previous night, I joined a bunch of great friends at Lindsey’s house! It was wonderful meeting new people and catching up with old buddies! We had some delicious brownies, and giggled and talked the night away! Brock got into a slight fight with the big English guy at the party, but all in all it was an entertaining night!

New Year’s started out with the ten of us going to The Bed, the lovely shisha Thai restaurant, which is two minutes away from our house! We sat in the gorgeous velvet room downstairs. At first I wanted to eat in the Bedouin Tent room, but it would have been hard to eat while lying down! After dinner and drinks, everyone came back to our place, where we indulged in chocolate fondue and sangria! We walked over to Lindsey’s place on Keelung, and met up with all of our other lovely friends!

Lindsey’s rooftop, which is on a 12 storey building, is massive. They were around 25 foreigners, and tons of Taiwanese people there! We had the most amazing view of Taipei 101. With only a few minutes left of the old year, with my new camera in hand, amongst my closest friends here, I was ready to roll in the New Year! I invited Karl to come as well, and even though it was a bit awkward, I am glad he was there to experience it!

My New Year’s last year was definitely different. I was running in the streets with Jeff and his roommate, trying to make it on to Xin-Yi, just seconds before the fireworks! We finally made it, and it was amazing, but soon we were separated and I ended up lost on the streets of Shida…eventually settling down to play card games with a few Taiwanese people in front of Jr. Café…haha! This year everyone was together, and we were away from the other 4 million inhabitants of this city! After the fireworks, we danced the night away at the fabulous gay bar Fresh, where Ryan did a hand stand on the stage..haha! Claire and I ended up sobering up at Vibe, and that’s how this New Year’s story ends! Now, I am off to Quiz Night at the Monkey! 
