holiday report

where to start, where to start? Let's do the easy thing and start at the beginning:

Monday November 10
We packed our stuff and loaded the car. We would be gone for only 4 nights but we had a lot of bags. No idea how we did it...

It was only a drive of about one hour and 20 minutes to the Veluwe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veluwe). We were going to a bungalow park, where you get your own little home with bathroom, kitchen and all. This one was ours for a few days:

We unloaded the car and looked around a bit on the park. It soon got dark already (as it does these days), so we got back to our bungalow. Unpacked a bit, watched a bit tv and made dinner. After that we decided we would go for a swim in the parks inside pool. For a short while we actually had a private pool, because no one else was there. It was fun going down the kiddy slide, hihi, and trying to catch the bubbles.

After that we ended up in the park cafe where we played a game of pool (we probably didn't play according to the rules, because we don't really know those, so we made our own game). The bf drank a whiskey (we brought so many stuff and still forgot the whiskey) and I had a nice warm cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream :D

Tuesday
It was zoo day. We went to Burgers Zoo (http://burgerszoo.nl.colo2.netmasters06.netmasters.nl/). It was a good day for a visit to the zoo; not many people and dry weather (a times a bit chilly, but we lived). Just a shame some animals were being cold or something and weren't visible.

There were a lot of young animals at the zoo, like baby chimpanzees and these baby panthers:

We had a good time there, even though my intestines were really bothering me. Something tells me it might have been the pool water and that maybe I had the same thing after the last time I went swimming. I can't really recall, as I go swimming only once a year.

Back at the bungalow we used the bathtub (with lots of lavender stuff for relaxation) and the fireplace:

Wednesday
MY BIRTHDAY! I woke up to a beautiful decorated living room of the bungalow. The bf did a good job:

We went on a geocaching walk (http://www.geocaching.com/). It was only a short one (5 km), but it was very fun and very creatively made. Really great.

It was a nice walk; it's so beautiful over there:

We found the cache alright and it contained some nice stuff. Because it was my birthday I got to choose what we took: a Pirates of the Caribbean card game (kinda like Uno: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uno_(game)) and a little puzzle of Die Maus (http://www.wdrmaus.de/wirsinddiemaus/). Of course in exchange we put some stuff back in the cache as well.

We were getting hungry so we had a belated lunch at the park cafe with pie (there has to be pie on a birthday, right?).

In the evening we again used the bathtub and the fire place, and watched some tv. They had two movie channels and we watched about 15 minutes of a most disturbing movie about genetically manipulated sheep that were now turned into killer sheep (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0779982/).

My lower back and stomach were a bit bothering me this day... (nothing to do with the sheep by the way)

Thursday
We wanted to a bigger geocaching trip. This time at the Nationaal Park de Hoge Veluwe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationaal_Park_De_Hoge_Veluwe). We went in with the car, but used white bikes to get around (you can borrow those). Not all roads were fun to ride on though:

There even were roads we had to push the bikes through thick layers of sand. No fun at all! (we only learned back home we weren't supposed to take the bikes off the paved tracks *oops*!)

This cache took too long (it was 25 km) and in the end we didn't even find the cache. That was kinda disappointing. We could make some nice nature shots though:

We also saw many tracks of wild animals like deer and wild boar (at least we assume it was that, maybe it was one of the killer sheep...)
On our way out of the park we got see some deer crossing the road (and a bunny and a cat).

We were so tired we ended up in the first restaurant we saw ("Rust een weinig" http://www.rust-een-weinig.nl/) and had a nice dinner of wild boar and deer (imported from Scotland and then our meat goes to other places. Very weird).

In the bungalow we used the last of our wood in the fire place and once again took a nice steaming bath (this time with stuff for the muscles. Today my lower back and lower stomach was being annoying again :S)

Friday
Time to go home again. It's always a shame you have to get out of the bungalow so early. That did leave us with plenty of time to drive home, so we avoided the highway and took smaller roads home. At the Veluwe that gives some beautiful views.

We got home in the afternoon in time to prepare the house for the arrival of my parents and my sister.

We had a good week out and now back at work it actually seems like I have been gone so long (that's probably because so many things have changed at work and I missed some important decisions).

birthday, work, pics
