Throughout most of this day, other than going to work and doing what I needed to do-as well as coming across a $5.00 bill while heading to work-, my thoughts have been...clouded, so to speak. I don't fully know what to expect as morning continues onward to sunrise, the afternoon, etc. My family and I have plans to have dinner later today, then head out to the cemetary together. Yet, it seems that since my grandmother passed, my family hasn't been as close as we once were. I don't know what to do about it, or if I can do anything about it. Something tells me I can't do anything about it, nor would anyone want me to.
What my grandfather-and my mother-want me to focus on is finding a second job, and being pushed by them both to do so-it's getting to me, even if I don't show my emotions outwardly. I got a call from the college-I can pick up my resume, with their thoughts on what I should do about it-from now until the 14th of October; on that date, my resume will be shredded. I plan to do so this upcoming Monday, make the necessary changes, then take that next step forward.
I just hope I'm strong enough on the inside to continue onward...
Batgirl #68
Out of the number of issues I'd expected to pick up this past Wednesday, this hadn't been one of them. Nor had the current issue of Robin, surprisingly enough. I enjoyed this one, since it was a follow-up from last month's with the Birds of Prey guest-starring. The battle between Cassandra and Shiva was...interesting, but what stunned me was when Shiva pulled off Cassandra's mouthguard, plus her eye coverings-which instantly reminded me of when Cassandra had once put on Barbara's original Batgirl costume back in Batgirl #45 (Robin made an appearance in that one, which was amusing when he commented that she was hot-seconds before he was knocked out by a thug from behind). Freeze's appearance, I'm sorry to say that I'd expected, only because DC Comics put up the spoilers for next month's issue-and the ones after that-already on their site.
So...is Shiva Cassandra's mother? Perhaps, perhaps not. It could be Nyssa, since she referred to Cassandra as "my little One who is All" after Freeze literally froze Cassie in her tracks.
Robin #142
It's a rare occasion-a *very* rare occasion-that a Robin issue will leave a taste of displeasure in my mouth. This issue did just that (I had a choice on what issues I wanted to buy this week-I could've picked up JSA: Classified #3, since it continues with the origin of Power Girl and had an appearance by Huntress, but chose not to). After careful thought, I could've left the Robin issue and picked it up next week.
Anyway, the Boy Wonder joined the Veteran and his team on a mission out of Bludhaven-and out of the country-to face a meta-human commando team, but ended up confronting a significant number of demons hatched from eggs. Wasn't thrilled one bit with Robin being kissed by the only female on the team, nor her response of it being "a promise of things to come, once you turn 18." The only thing I enjoyed about this issue-at all-was the choice Robin made in not using a gun.
Supergirl #2
This issue not only made up for the disappointing Robin issue, but was everything I expected! (I also decided to pick up the Michael Turner cover but will pick up the issue again-with the cover of Supergirl surrounded by the Titans-next time). From the start, this book had action written all over it; I especially enjoyed Kara's comment to Conner at the beginning during their fight, which was kept short:
"What the hell is your problem?!" -Supergirl
"You being here." -Superboy
Out of the moments of their battle, the two parts I enjoyed the most was when they both fired a blast of heat vision at the other, only for both shots to meet in the middle, and when Kara actually broke Conner's jaw! It was interesting to see that Kara was able to restore his jaw only seconds later. But, what I especially saw as stunning and amazing was the battle between Supergirl and Wonder Girl. (The Titans followed Supergirl when they'd seen a "high-speed projectile" heading for the Kent farm). Back and forth action from them both, starting with Cassie striking Kara in a momentary fit of jealousy, then Kara vibrating so fast, she couldn't be seen-a trick she'd picked up from watching The Flash-Cassie trying to use her lasso, but Kara doing something I don't think I expected or anyone else deciding to pick up the book expected...she used Cassie's own lasso against her, while her own anger was intensified!
To shorten this out as best I can, Superboy stated that "My cousin doesn't have to leave. You all do." which amazed me-and leaves one to wonder if Kon-El even wants to remain on the Titans after he gets past his personal guilt. Robin and Kid Flash appeared near the end, after Robin sent Kid Flash to retrieve an old friend, and someone who I still consider a Titan, even if she is on the Outsiders-Starfire, who said she has a few answers for Kara. Luthor was on the final page of the issue, identifying the pieces of Kryptonite that he had embedded in his fingers on his specially-made suit: forefinger, Green Kryptonite; middle finger, Red Kryptonite; ring finger, Blue Kryptonite; pinky finger, Black Kryptonite. (Which should sound familiar to those who've seen the "Smallville" series).
Teen Titans/Outsiders: Secret Files & Origins 2005
I've been waiting for this issue since August, and wasn't surprised to see it this past week. I enjoyed the story entitled "Teen Titans Hunt," since it revolved around Robin, Starfire, Nightwing, Arsenal, Cyborg and Beast Boy. Also found the story "Secrets" intriguing, since it revolved around Wonder Girl and former Young Justice member Cissie King-Jones, who hasn't been seen since Teen Titans #7; the story connects with Teen Titans #24, interestingly enough. Ironically, throughout the Young Justice series, from #17 on to the final issue, the members of the team-Robin and Secret excluded-tried to get Cissie back in action, yet she repeatedly refused; in "Secrets," Cissie offered to help Cassie take on two members of the Society, but Cassie stated, "Arrowette's retired, remember? I got this."
Young Justice #35
Speaking of Young Justice, I found this back issue near my college and consider it awesome, since it revolved around the "Our Worlds at War" saga that took place mid-2001, from July onto September, I believe. This was one of the issues that Cassie tried one last time to get Cissie back into costume, and she ended up rejoining the team on a special mission at the end of the issue-as plain old Cissie King-Jones, which I liked very much. I plan to pick up Young Justice #36, 37 and Impulse #77, since they also connect with the "Our Worlds at War" saga.
The quote for this weekend comes from Supergirl #2.
"Sometimes...grr...trying to make things work on this stupid planet with all these stupid people just...overwhelms me." -Supergirl
"They don't call us 'The angsty-teens-who-need-to-hang-out-with-our-friends' Titans for nothing." -Kid Flash, Supergirl #2
