The NY Times Magazine, last week, ran an article enticingly entitled The Holy Grail of the Unconscious, about a soon-to-be-revealed book apparently authored by C.G. Jung himself. The article caused excitement among the C.G. Jung acolytes, leading to interesting letters in this weeks edition.

This is interesting research, even if it baffles the mind as to how one wants to go and research about this.

What it most reminds me of is the old saying that, "If it is true, it is not bragging."

While this article views itself as a contribution to the question of whether language influences conceptualization or not, it seems to me to be more a question of whether you are doing predicate invention or feature clustering.

Still, the setup is inventive, and the aliens are cute.

I guess anyone who has noticed the power of satire will not be surprised to learn of this experiment that sidera posted about. The research suggests that sexist jokes are more powerful in reinforcing sexist tendencies than non-sexist jokes or serious sexist statements. Not "just" a joke, then.

This may be indicative of European sensibilities, but it is interesting that no one I have read so far on the topic of the Standford Prison Experiment comments on the fact how simple it was to turn staff offices into prison cells: They took out the furniture and swapped out the doors!
