After pretty much completely failing to help slaves get their freedom ("St. Paul didn't say anything about freeing your slaves") and getting women onto the road toward equal rights ("St. Paul said that women should do what their husbands say, just like the Church does what Jesus says!"), Christianity is snoozing off while a bunch of desperate right-wing politicians are trying to save their electoral bacon by - novel concept! - gay bashing, in the form of clamping down on non-Roman law-supported concepts of marriage (of course, no one remembers that St Paul said it would be better not to get married at all - ah, the wonderful buffet approach to religion).
Listening to these guys, you'd think Jesus was Pilate's press secretary .... Hello, where is the uncomfortablness of religion? Where is the challenge to the dominant culture? What about structural sin? You can be of two opinions whether Jesus was what the NT says he was, but its damn certain that he wasn't pro-establishment. ("Whosoever is close to me is close to the fire.")
The whole thing is so fadenscheinig (threadbare) that
some of their own people are not buying it.
