Gundam Seed Destiny

After a week-and-a-half long marathon viewing, we finished the Gundam Seed Destiny series last Wednesday. Fifty episodes, can you believe it? I mentioned in the previous post that Ga and I were hooked right from the first episode, but this set a new record in our anime-viewing history. We were addicted to the point that GSD became the top priority of our day. Never mind that he had killer midterm exams in Corporate Finance and I had a daily morning commute to Alabang that week. We'd watch eight to ten episodes per day, with barely occasional iced tea and bathroom breaks. The time spent watching the series was well worth it as GSD is an absolute killer. The series was well-written and fast-paced, it set the tense mood just right, and the ending was something you'd never ever have guessed through the entire course of the series! The fun thing about watching GSD was that we were always surprised. The bad guys from the start become the good guys and the good guys defect to the bad side, there are bad-bad guys who remain bad all throughout; then a neutral side that came from who-knows-where joins with the goodish-bad side to fight the bad-bad guys, with the bad-good guys hovering somewhere in between. The permutations are endless. Set in an endless war, you realize in the end that there is no right or wrong, as each side holds firm to their own idealistic beliefs for a peaceful world. It was ironic, an endless war waged to bring peace. It was also tragic because neither side's dream was realized. On the micro scale, the complex interpersonal relationships of love, hate, betrayal, kindness, and despair were sweet poison to us. The ending sent my world crashing down. Just my type of entertainment.

GSD also stand-alone, meaning you don't need to have watched Gundam Seed - which is the prequel - to appreciate GSD (although I'm sure that the background information from Gundam Seed will help enhance your viewing pleasure of GSD, because there are flashbacks time to time in Destiny). We can't get enough of GSD, so our next prospect is Gundam Seed! I bought the series last Saturday but I'm returning it because they gave me the wrong anime ;p Some gayish chica anime where everyone sounds like they inhaled a tankful of helium. Each. In the meantime we're engrossed with the other anime I mentioned in my previous post, "Gakutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo", an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' book - and a very exciting adaptation I must say! We're at episode 14 or 15 of 27. More on that in the next post. (Spoiler: It's deliciously decadent! ;p)
