I got to cook a Christmas Eve dinner for my family. I was very proud of my caramelized onions and their corresponding pan sauce that went over some beautifully grilled steaks. My mom and I co opted and effort on a feta, romaine, and currant salad that she made a vinaigrette for. I accompanied dinner with a really good stout that Molly got me. Dark like you wouldn't believe and tasty to boot. Not really a stout fan, but it was delicious. Mortality Stout by Reaper Ale. Mmm. All in all good. For breakfast Ma made creme breulle french toast. This is probably the reason I feel twenty pounds heavier than usual. As far as gifts, I got a 5 qt Le Creuset braiser in Sonoma Green (makes my heart flutter), 3 1/2 qt All Clad Sauce Pan, a copy of Brother Juniper's Bread Book, a grayish blue American Apparel henley, coffee and beer (Molly), boxers with robots on them, some cash, kitchen utensils, homemade hot cocoa with a cinnamon twist, and some other assorted items. Pleased as punch.
After I cooked, I went over to Paolo's for a birthday/christmas eve bash that included tequila shots and pictionary/charades/humdingers (basically star performer category from Cranium) as well as general merriment and joy. It was the first time I'd ever been out on Christmas Eve and I must say it added to my overall holiday delight. There were some pretty hilarious moments (Chris and his copy cat) and out of the blue, god only knows how type guesses that made me realize how well all of us get each other. Very nice indeed.
I have to do laundry and pack for China. In some ways, I've gotten spoiled traveling by myself and with friends.
