I am all about the tote bags, but it turns out we need plastic grocery bags to use as garbage bags in the the bathroom and all the bedrooms. It is a form of recycling I guess...
Yeah, when I get plastic bags (sometimes I forget my tote bags) I use them as garbage bags. Some stores will even take your plastic bags and recycle it themselves.
We actually do both in this household, the latter mostly to deal with oddly shaped bags we can't use any other way. Like our piles and piles of skinny wine bottle bags.

Unplug appliances from the wall when not in use, as they still use some power even if off.
