Katy and Zach's Wedding Toast

Jun 04, 2017 13:16

we all know how Katy has a habit of taking in strays. she has a kind heart like that. we also know that if one of her strays is too difficult to get along with, has so many problems that no one else will take them in, Katy is more than likely to adopt them herself. just because she cannot stand for anything she cares about to be unwanted. uncared for. I know this from personal experience because she adopted me when she was 17. [1]

over the years Katy and I would talk, over the phone or over a couple of pints at a pub, about the latest stray she’d taken up. often times she’d turn to me and say “What The Fuck!?!” because they had to done something really stupid or really selfish. me, being the old and wise man that I am, would give her what sage advice I could. that most people were just made of stupid. that selfish was the norm.
(yeah, don’t you just wish you had a friend as insightful as me?)

however, several years back she started telling me about this guy who wasn’t stupid. who wasn’t selfish. that she had adventures with and was comfortable with. I figured she had wholly adopted him about the time she started bringing him to the annual xmas eve dinner at my house.

don’t get me wrong. there were still times when she’d turn to me say “What The Fuck!” when she’d tell me that if he ever did that, whatever that was, again she’d tear his guts out and feed them to him. but, like I said, this stray was smart. he never got eviscerated. he figured it out.

she liked that he was tall. she loved that he was smart. she liked that he was articulate and liked good food. she loved that he was kind. as for me, most of all, I loved that he made her happy.

to Katy and Zach.

[1] the toast as I gave it said 19 but I checked with Katy later and she said it was actually 17.
