Just Another Thursday Night
My idea of a relaxing day: getting off my shift, having breakfast/catch up session for 3 hours with Ate D at Recipes, taking a nap, meeting up with Don who surprised me with Just Baked cupcakes, watched Zero Dark Thirty (5/5 stars), and now just sitting here, with my feet up on a chair, wrapped in a blanket while my best bud is playing his computer game next to me.
I am truly blessed in my life. I live a very wealthy life, not in terms of goods, but in terms of people and opportunities.
I also recently became Vice President of the BNP YM Michigan Chapter... but that's another blog entry to be written.
Over breakfast this morning, Ate D and I were talking about tattoos. She's pretty set on getting one of her favorite quotes on her arm. It's a quote that has meant so much to her in the past few years. A quote that motivates her and inspires her. It's beautiful. Then I started talking about the tattoo I wanted. I've always wanted a silhouette of birds. Each bird to remind me of hard events that I've faced in my life. Each bird to remind me where I came from. Each bird to remind me how far I've come. Each bird to show freedom, to show that I will not be bonded to the chains of my past. Each bird to represent new life, new beginnings.
After talking with Ate D, I was able to reflect how far I've come. I've reached lengths some people doubted that I could reach, lengths that people doubt themselves can reach. And I'm surrounded by just as focused, motivated people as well.. this upcoming summer, some of the best people I know (Ate D, Jon, Don) will be graduating in Social Work, Nursing, and Medical School, respectively. It just inspires me to continue to push forward. To make new goals once I accomplish one. I know these people will contribute and make a dent whatever their futures hold. I'm excited to see where their future takes them.
One thing I always try to remember: I'm not trying to be better than anyone but myself.
