On Monday, Don and I went to see one of my favorite comedians, Tig Notaro. She's on the Sarah Silverman show, she was on Comedy Central's Last Comic Standing and I found her randomly searching YouTube. Her opening acts were okay, but it didn't compare to how funny Tig is. Don and I laughed pretty hard and probably would have laughed harder if we had something to drink. My throat was so dry from laughing so much!!!
Don kind of sat at an angle behind me and it every now and then I'd look back and see him laughing hard, but quietly. It was a great time. Don bought me her CD and we got to take a picture with her! She was waaaayyyy better in person! She's really good with improv and just working with the environment around her.
We watched her in the Pike Room of the Crofoot in Pontiac. It was funny when she saw there wasn't a ton of people... only like "17". She also asked if any of us were actually from Pontiac and there were like 3. She said she's used to playing in front of a few hundred people. Unfortunately, there was a metal band that was playing in the main Crofoot Ballroom and we could hear and feel the sounds and vibrations coming from the band. I think Tig had a challenge in that because a lot of her funniness comes from her pauses and silences within her acts. She did so well, nonetheless. It was definitely a great night!! I'm so glad Don agreed to come. He was even saying that the comedians from the other comedy club that we went to in Ferndale don't have jack on her. Like, they should be paying for her to come out. She really was amazing!!
Thanks Tig for a memorable night :)
