I spent part of Thanksgiving Evening going through closets and boxes in my dad's house. I was searching for a box, or maybe boxes of clothes that I'm sure had to be in the house.. More specifically I was looking for a dress of my mother's.

I'm very anti the concept that "Situation A will always effect a person in Ways 1 & 2". I had a hell of a time having an identity outside of "the girl who lost her mother" to a lot of my teachers for a while when I was in school and it drove me nuts when people would assume I was one way or not another because of what happened. I was more than just that one event.

That said - I think it's not unreasonable to say that it's probably pretty common in kids who lose parents at a young age. I don't know if it applies to you - I guess that's a question for you. I know that, yeah - I have a hell of a time picturing myself as an adult sometimes. Ages past where she lived to are even more unfathomable. If it weren't for my aunt, maybe I'd never mature at all =P

Look at puppies (because hey - who doesn't like looking at puppies?) Many dogs raised without adult dogs around always retain some of their puppy-ish characteristics. Why shouldn't people not at least sometimes be the same way?

I guess it's a personal question, but do you sort of feel the same way? No real "roadmap" to what an adult is supposed to be?
