Nick was checking his email when he heard Sara beckoning.
"DAAAA-DDY!" Excited, little feet charged towards him, and Nick turned around in his chair, just in time to be hugged around the knees.
"Hi, Sara." He smiled and leaned forward to kiss the top of her head.
"Daddy?" Sara whispered. Loudly.
"Yes, Babygirl?" He whispered back, grinning and very much amused by this little game.
"I got see-kit." Eyes wide, she gave a little nod before hiding her mouth behind her hands.
"You do?" Nick wanted to laugh, but he held it.
"Yah." Another nod.
From the look on her face, Nick could see there was some sort of internal struggle taking place. Tell or not tell? He knew, of course, that she would eventually spill the beans. She was only two, after all, and at that age, secrets were no fun unless you could blab to everyone you knew.
Leaning in real close, he raised his eyebrows and whispered some more. "Is it a big secret?"
"Yaya!" She forgot to whisper. "Yaya."
"How big?" He wasn't sure how, but he managed to keep a straight face.
"Dis big, Daddy." When Sara held her arms open, Nick scooped her up. Once the giggling subsided, Sara went back to whispering. "Daddy, I got see-kit."
"Can you tell me?"
"Mama say nono." She shook her head, lips pressed firmly together.
"Hmm..." This was unexpected. On one hand, he should be supportive of his daughter's moment of strength. On the other hand, he wanted to know what this secret was, especially if Carolina had something to do with it. There had to be a way to do both.
"Daddy?"
"Yes, Sara?"
"Mmm...Daddy know see-kit?"
"Yeah, I know the secret." He smiled.
"Okee!" She smiled back happily, looking relieved.
"You gonna tell Mama I know?"
"Mmm..." A worried look.
"It's not a secret."
"No see-kit?"
"Nope." He gave her a kiss on the cheek and let her off his lap.
"MAMA! NOT SEE-KIT! DADDY KNOW! MAAA-MAAA!"
