Title: Safety in Lies
Author: Kagome
Rating: PG - Angst mallet ahead!
Challenge: None
Characters/Pairings: Aoi/Uruha (the GazettE)
Word Count: 400
Notes: I don’t know where this came from, to be honest. XD It just popped into my head, and wouldn’t leave me alone, so I wrote it. It’s AU, based on the
Own the Sun RP that I’m part of. Dedicated to
spinshadow, the Aoi to my Uruha. ^_^ It’s not porn, but hey~. I’m not sure if this takes place before or after they’re an… established couple, though. XD Enjoy, hon. *snuggle* Not x-posted anywhere, because it's RP-based.
Uruha awoke with a start, sitting up in the bed and burying his face in his hands. He was shaking, and he was shaking badly.
No matter how many miles away I am, I can’t run away from memories. There’s no amount of distance that can stop those, he thought bitterly. He was having nightmares, again. But then again, he always did at this time of the year.
He was awake now, but he couldn’t banish the images or the sounds from his mind. He could still hear that single gunshot; he could still see the gun, clutched in his hand; he could still see his blood on the floor.
His heart was pounding and tears were stinging his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. He blinked them back furiously and tried to calm his racing heart. It happened years ago, Uruha. Isn’t it about time that you moved on?
“Uru? Are you okay?” Aoi’s voice - soft, concerned. Of course. Uruha had almost forgotten that he wasn’t at home, in his own bed. Great. Now Uruha was going to make an idiot of himself in front of his lover.
“Yes,” Uruha lied, and his voice was shaking almost as badly as his hands.
“Shadows?” Aoi asked, sitting up and sliding an arm around Uruha.
“…Yes,” Uruha finally answered. “I’m sorry I--”
“Shh,” Aoi interrupted, his fingers gently combing through Uruha’s damp blonde hair. “Don’t apologize. It isn’t your fault.”
But it is, Uruha wanted to say, even though, in his heart, he knew that Aoi was right. What had happened had not been his fault.
… He had just always felt like it had been.
“Lie back down and let me hold you,” Aoi continued, voice soothing. “You’re safe here, Uru-chan.”
A lie for a lie, Uruha thought, because he wasn’t at all sure he was safe. But he did not complain as Aoi tugged him back down and into the warm circle of his arms.
Uruha buried his face against Aoi’s neck and breathed in his scent. He clung to Aoi as though Aoi were his lifeline, and Aoi held onto him just as tightly. Uruha closed his eyes, allowing himself to believe - for the time being, at least - that he was safe and that Aoi would protect him from his shadows… his past.
It was a lie, but at least it was a comforting one.
