Football Camp

Ok, this is gonna be a long one. This entry is going to cover the whole 4-5 day span that I was just in Laramie Wyoming for my football camp. It was fun, but at the same time I hated every minute of it.

Wed.- I got up a 4 in the morning so I could drive to my girlfriend's house to tell her by. Then I went to the school where we loaded up on the busses and vans to go to Wyoming, but our head coach had slept in and we had to meet him in Delta(30 mi. away). So we started off late to the camp. After hours of driving and sleeping we made it to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, well after one flat tire. We checked our football team in after we got there and then the seniors had trials. For senior trials, the seniors from each team had to give the wyoming choaches their height, weight, and then test in their 40 yard dash time, and shuttle run times. Then we (the seniors) finally got to check in our dorms. I got to room with two of m y best buds on the team, Chris Cooper and Jeremy Mills. We were supposed to have 7 on 7 and pass rush competitions that night but it was all rained out. After torturing a few underclassmen for making out team look bad at the camp meeting, we called it a day and went to sleep.

Thurs.- We woke up at 6 in the morning so we could all shower before we went to eat.I was really groggy that morning (didn't sleep well, missed Jess) so I loaded up on the caffine. We had to be at camp streches by 8, so we ran back to our rooms and got all of our pads on so we could just chill for a while. Shortly after we loaded up the busses and were on the north 40 (a group of about 8 football feilds on the campus) in no time. We streched and had invividual drills with the Wyoming coaches. Then we had team practices and got ready for the hitting to begin. We started off kinda slow, the first team we played, kinda beat us up. But after that we started to kick ass. The other two teams that we played that morning we killed. Then we all went to lunch and had a nice break afterwards. Then it was back to it again with the scrimages. We kicked ass again that afternoon. One of the scrimages was a little rough around the edges, but we still won it. The team was playing better than I have even seen them. It was awesome because we didn't even have the whole team there, and we were still ranked the number 1 team in the camp. So that night at the doorms everyone was happy. We all had a good time.( As good of a time as you can have when you are really missing someone).

Fri.- Because two nights in a row of 7 on 7 and line-man pass rush competitions had been cancelled because of the rain, we had to do it that morning (in the pooring rain). The whole time at camp my helment kept hitting me when I would hit people. So I had some major swelling on the bridge of my nose, plus 2 black eyes and a swolen chin and fore-head. To top it all off, that morning I fractured a small bone in the back of my wrist. It looked like a golf ball was in the spot on my arm where the wrist is. The wyoming trainers though that I should not play with it like than and I should get it x-rayed. It is the worst feeling in the world to stand by and watch your team sturggle and all you can do is stand by and watch. If I could have I would have took every hit, went in on every play and taken the beating for all of my friends out there that were working there asses off while I just stood by useless. It killed me just to sit by like that...useless like I was. So later that day I talked to the head trainer and he told me not to play the rest of camp. I really felt like shit then. I was crushed, the though of leaving the team with a freshman to fill in my positions going into the camp turnament was tearing me apart. I had a little chat with my head coach and told him how I felt. He understood and told me that if I thought I could play then go for it. So I did. My wrist made it trough it fine because it was taped and the swelling could not stay in one spot. In the end I did not let my team down and that is what was important. There are people on the team that I have a great deal of respect for, and to not let them down when they needed me felt great. So that night I was a little happier, but I still really missed Jessica. She had been there in the back of my mind all day, sneaking up on me when I would least expect it. One time I forgot the snap count to a play and had to guess because I remembered her. She has that effect on me, I love her. That night I slept a little better, but not much. I had dreams of winning the camp tournament that night.....turns out that they were just that, dreams.

Sat.- Everyone woke up as a team that day and when to eat breakfeast. We all made jokes about eating our wheaties and everything. Damn we were stupid. Instead of staying serous and being prepaired to kick some ass, we just jacked around and lost all of our intensity. In the tournament if we could have played like we had the day before, we would have been unstopable. But we took to long to gain our intensity and start kicking some ass. Two teams too late.....We played the other two toughest teams in the camp and lost. The last team (even though it didn't matter) we beat the crap out of. I feel like I let the team down that day. I am supposed to be one of the leaders, but where was I when we were losing?, where was I when the line was not holding?, where was I when they needed me? I was not doing my best and I failed the team when I shoud have helped lead them. That night we went to the Rockies game in Denver on the way home. It was pretty boring and I missed Jessica more than ever. The one voice that could make me forget my failure. The one person that understands no matter what. The only girl that I will ever love.

Sun.- The team woke up eirly, raided a gass station that had a kirspy creme store in it, and we headed home.

That is pretty much my story, I left out a bunch of minor details that would have made this thing twice as long, but the main things are still there I think. That was pretty much my camp.
