So, we played two sets at Villanova High School yesterday. One during an assembly for students and the other later in the evening for a paying audience. It was definitely one of the best shows we've had in a long time, especially sound-wise. Everything was mixed to perfection, even the monitors. I swear I could have kissed the sound tech.
It was great to see such a turn out followed by tremendous feedback, considering that we were a metal band rounding out the end of a showcase that featured more hip-hop, pop, rhythm and blues, and acoustic acts. My personal highlight were the throngs of teenage girls that screamed (presumably out of excitement, fear, or a mix of both) when I removed my toque and 'unleashed' my long, curly locks. Good to know that there are future groupies for the guys taking up guitar in high school ...
I was pleased that the painkillers didn't have an adverse effect on my performance and that I didn't get as 'fuzzy-minded' as I typically do when I have a couple doses. Alas, such good fortune was bound to run out. Today, my neck, lower back, and hip are all screaming in several languages of pain when I sit or shift my weight in the wrong direction whilst standing. Nothing really that has caught me by surprise, but it's still frustrating to be feeling ramifications from the accident nearly eight months after the fact.
After being up from 8am-4am yesterday and playing chauffeur for the band, I'm going to be off to bed earlier than usual tonight. I'm just worn out.
