what do you say to taking chances?

never knowing if there's solid ground below, a hand to hold, or hell to pay? what do you say?

i am pleased with how my life has developed this year.

1. i'm so glad i took a risk and flew to lima, peru to meet katty. i couldn't ask for a better girlfriend than her. or family to be a part of. we get along remarkably well, we have fun, we have similar humor, we like similar things, but we have a lot to learn from each other too. we compliment each other. i love her so much, and everyday it grows stronger. i can't wait to build a life with her beside me.

2. traveling to peru in general was an eye-opening experience. its so cool to compare different cultures. different ways of living. different ways of getting around. different everything! i loved it. i embraced it. it was great. i loved the peruvian people, the delicious food and desserts, the cheapness, the black markets, the music, trying to learn spanish, being able to catch a bus or taxi within a minute, walking around, the parks, the buildings, the museums, the beaches... machu picchu was an experience. wow, it was so huge. i thought it was going to be like small, but i was wrong! it was so cool. to imagine how the incan's carried those huge stones up there. wow. it was cool. it was like a little world.

3. volunteering at bruce peru lima. what a diverse group we were. but we all had fun together. and tried to make a difference. it was 3 dutch people, 2 americans, and 5 peruvians. we helped out at a school in villa el salvador, one of the poor parts of lima. wow..that school was sad. they tried, though. the class was about 15-20 kids ages 5-13. all on different levels. the school itself was on a big dirt hill. and stray dogs would come in the building looking for food or shelter. it was sad. but the kids had life to them. they were always smiling, or willing to learn, ask questions. hyper at times..but hell, who wouldn't want attention after hearing some of their home lives. some of them lived in houses made of straw. some had 4 or 5 siblings. dirty. no food. but i enjoyed seeing their faces on tuesday and thursday.

4. i can't wait to go back. i want to teach english in an institute for a while. once i save up more money to go. if i ever find a job around here! (what a stress it's been!) hopefully soon something will come about.

5. its nice to be home. to be with my family again. see my friends. drive. talk in english. but i also feel like a part of me is still in peru. i feel incomplete without katty.

6. well, thats my update and life plan. i'm back home, enjoyed myself in peru, and now waiting for places to offer me a job, and then go back to peru.
