Before we left on this trip, MaryAnne said she wanted to re-read Pride & Prejudice while in Europe. I knew she had read it several times before (plus we used to watch that entire 6 hour Colin Firth version every weekend), so instead I bought her all of Austen's other novels. All three of us are reading them. So far, I've re-read Mansfield Park, Sense & Sensibility, and Persuasion (which is my favorite). I didn't want to re-read Northanger Abbey because I read it earlier this year. As we repacked our suitcases the day we left, Emma got left at my house so we stopped today to pick up another copy. As we're making our way through those far too quickly to last the whole trip, we thought we'd also re-read the Brontë sister's best-known books, but decided that Wuthering Heights is too fucking depressing to read on vacation, and I wasn't in the mood for Jane Eyre again right now, so we got Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë instead, since none of us have read it before. We also picked up Peter Pan, and I'm reading it aloud to them, mostly as a bedtime story (most of the time we listen to music on my laptop and I read
ecogeek to them as they fall asleep).
I also purchased a Calvin & Hobbes book in Hungarian (Magyar?). MaryAnne and I know the stories so well that we browsed through the book and laughed and laughed at the pictures, then were obliged to recount the tales to Kylee.
ps
I did a quick spell check of this before posting, and it wanted to change Kylee to Kaylee. Man, makes me want to watch some Firefly!! Incidentally, Kylee's middle name is Jayne, and I keep calling her 'The Hero of Canton'.
