Lying About the Castle

((November 19th))
Luna lay on on her back on a seldom used staircase somewhere near the old Divination tower.  She had her foot hooked around the railing and had her head facing down rather than up.  Her gold hair trailed down several steps below like a carpet.  The horcrux book lay across her chest.  She had picked it up and attempted to read it a ( Read more... )

Lavender had finally come up with a way to relax. The house elves rarely cleaned out Trelawny's old room due to disuse, and she had taken it upon herself to come up every once in awhile to clean and air the place out. Her favorite teacher's smell was slowly fading from the room, but if she lit some of the old candles that were stacked around the room, just the glow would bring back teary eyed memories and sometimes even burn her nose like in third year. Firenze could always tell when she had gone up there- the smell was hard to wash out of clothing- but he was nice enough to never say anything ( ... )

Luna heard the noise and twisted onto her stomach so she could see down. "Are you all right?" she asked, slowy getting her own footing on the stairs. She picked her bag up and walked down to investigate.

"Ya..." She still was breathy, but was still able to push herself around to be laying on one stair instead of five, resting her sore back on the banister, "Just give me a second." She started deep breathing from her meditation and yoga classes she took with her mother.

She only did three deep breathes, but that seemed to be enough. She looked up at Luna with a surprised look on her face, "I almost stepped on you!"

"Well, I'm glad you didn't," Luna said, kneeling on the step where Lav had stopped. "But I thought I left enough room to go around. Do you need to see Madam Pomfrey?"

"You shouldn't keep secrets from Neville," Luna said sagely, playing with a chain around her neck. "Particularly not silly ones."

"It's not silly!" She pouted, "He worries about me too much! So if I am actually falling on my bottom all over the castle, his head may explode!"

"Neville's head exploded a few weeks back," Luna said. "So it's a little late to worry about. I actually think he's doing better now. And it helps sometimes to have some one else to worry about. I know I would want Harry to tell me if he fell down the stairs...at the very least, I wouldn't want him to hide it from me."

She nodded, remembering the way Neville had been that week, "It's just going to happen again, though... and I'm not helping at all. Maybe I should just check myself into the Hospital wing like he wanted..." She drifted off before finishing her thought for Luna's benefit, "I haven't been able to sleep. For months. I'm on the verge of a meltdown myself!"

Thank goodness I'm handy with a make-up brush!

She knew she was being extremely flippant, but she couldn't help it. It made it seem much better then it actually was. She was behaving horridly and she knew it. Her face started to show her distaste in herself and she looked down at her notebook again, not making a move to write in it.

"Well, I would be reading a book if you hadn't nearly stepped on my face and knocked yourself down the stairs," Luna pointed out snappily. "And I could go back to reading my book, if you'd just go to hospital wing already." She sighed and uncrossed her arms. "Lavender, just go see Madam Pomfrey, before I have to summon Neville or Hermione up here."

She huffed again, not used to being talked back to and not knowing what to say.

"Hermione can't control me." She finally found her words, and they were fierce ones, "And Neville wouldn't believe you. He knows that I have it under control."

"They're head boy and girl," Luna explained. "If I don't call on them, I'll have to call Tonks or McGonagall. It's a prefect thing." She tapped her badge and gave Lavender an apologetic shrug.

"But then I would be sent home." She pointed out, avoiding the point that once her muggle-nurse mother found out, she would have a fit and MAKE her come home, "I don't think many people would appreciate that, do you?

"And what about your little secrets, Luna?" She grinned evilly.
