Lying About the Castle

((November 19th))
Luna lay on on her back on a seldom used staircase somewhere near the old Divination tower.  She had her foot hooked around the railing and had her head facing down rather than up.  Her gold hair trailed down several steps below like a carpet.  The horcrux book lay across her chest.  She had picked it up and attempted to read it a ( Read more... )

Lavender had finally come up with a way to relax. The house elves rarely cleaned out Trelawny's old room due to disuse, and she had taken it upon herself to come up every once in awhile to clean and air the place out. Her favorite teacher's smell was slowly fading from the room, but if she lit some of the old candles that were stacked around the room, just the glow would bring back teary eyed memories and sometimes even burn her nose like in third year. Firenze could always tell when she had gone up there- the smell was hard to wash out of clothing- but he was nice enough to never say anything.

She wasn't sure why she keep coming. It wasn't like Trelawny couldn't get it cleaned out throughly when she came back...

It was during this thought that Lavender stopped herself from crushing Luna's face with her foot. Instead of doing so gracefully, however, Lavender slipped as she became off balance, falling backwards onto the spiral staircase. She screamed, but she was already halfway down. The inborn magic that prevents such mishaps just barely caught her from falling down hard enough to cause any serious damage, but her back still made full contact with the first bit of stairs, causing a lovely striped bruise for latter. If this had happened before her magic took effect, she would have broke something.

But she wasn't thinking about that at the moment. The wind was knocked out of her, and she had just spotted Luna above her. Gasping like a fish, she thought about how it always happened that she always seemed to be there to witness such happenings.

Luna heard the noise and twisted onto her stomach so she could see down. "Are you all right?" she asked, slowy getting her own footing on the stairs. She picked her bag up and walked down to investigate.

"Ya..." She still was breathy, but was still able to push herself around to be laying on one stair instead of five, resting her sore back on the banister, "Just give me a second." She started deep breathing from her meditation and yoga classes she took with her mother.

She only did three deep breathes, but that seemed to be enough. She looked up at Luna with a surprised look on her face, "I almost stepped on you!"

"Well, I'm glad you didn't," Luna said, kneeling on the step where Lav had stopped. "But I thought I left enough room to go around. Do you need to see Madam Pomfrey?"

"I wasn't paying attention." She admitted, and blushed, "And no, I don't think so."

She looked up the rest of the stairs, imagining the door to Trelawly's room and a nice, comfy poof that she could lay down on.

She grabbed her bag, which had only slipped a step down from where she was and pulled it over her shoulder as she started to slowly stand up, a hand on her lower back like a pregnant lady.

"You don't have much luck with stairs do you?" Luna commented, also standing.

She laughed, almost surprised that Luna was (or was it just coincidence?) being friendly towards her.

"Apparently not," she answered, smiling.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Luna asked one last time. "That was a very loud fall."

"I'm fine, really. I can walk it off. But..." As if she had known Luna all her life, she whipped around and pulled up her shirt, revealing her back, "How does it look?"

"Bruised...bit like a zebra," Luna assessed.

She sighed heavily and tugged down her shirt, "Brilliant."

Turning around again, she finally noticed Luna's book that she had been reading before she had made that entrance, "Were you studying... on the stairs?"

"Sort of...trying to think," Luna said.

She smiled softly, "Doesn't reading like that hurt your head?"

She reached into her bag and held up a key, "I have a better place... and I need to lie down, I think. Care to join me?"

Luna hesitated. She had been trying to find somewhere private. Even with the enchantments, she preferred to be guarded with the horcrux book. Still it she wasn't sure it was wise to send Lavender off on her own yet. "No, it didn't hurt..." Luna said, knowing it probably would have started to feel strange after a few more minutes. She did however enjoy new hiding spaces. "But lead on."

She nodded her head happily and started up the steps. She now held the railing with a firm grip and instead of skipping up, she chose to instead take her time. No sense repeating that incident.

"I come up here to study sometimes when I can't concentrate. Which is often..." She smiled as she turned back to Luna for a moment before her eyes went to watch her feet again. It wasn't the complete truth, but she didn't want to know what Luna would think of her if she knew that she came up her for more then just a quiet room.

They made there way up the spiral staircase a few more turns before finally reaching the divination ladder. Climbing up the first three rungs, she reached up and turned the key with ease. Pushing the trapdoor open so that it hit the floor with a dull thud, she pulled herself up the rest of the way until she was able to turn and sit on the edge. Pulling up her bag and then her feet, she disappeared from sight, expecting Luna to follow.

Luna smiled softly as she realized where Lavender was taking her. She was rather fond of this room right now, herself. She'd gotten her first kiss in here. She hadn't had much luck focusing on her book that time either.

"I wonder how Professor Trewlawny is doing?" she wondered out loud, realizing as she did so that she could and should probably check on her.
