Last summer I went to Reynosa Mexico with my church and Mission Discovery, and helped build a house. In December I went with Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse to Belize to hand out Operation Christmas Child boxes to desperate children there.
NOW I have graduated high school! woot! and GOING TO AFRICA!!!
AND THE BEST PART IS: SENECA IS GOING WITH ME !!!!!!!!!
God is continuing to do some wonderful things in my life and each opportunity is more exciting then the next.
On July 26-August 8 I will be traveling with a missions organization called Mission Discovery (the same organization that I worked with in Mexico last summer), who is teaming with YWAM (Youth with a Mission). We will be traveling to the remote island of Mfangano, Kenya,to build a cinder block home for a widow whose husband has been struck down by the AIDS virus. We will also be organizing and running a Children’s Bible School for the local children, in order to share God's greatest blessing, the Gospel, with the people of Kenya.
Every country in Africa has been absolutely ravaged by the AIDS virus, and Kenya is no different. In fact, at 890,000, Kenya has the third highest number of AIDS orphans in the world, and at least 15% of the adult population is currently living with AIDS - that's 2.5 MILLION people. The forgotten island of Mfangano has been overlooked by the government as well as NGO’s (Non-Governmental Organizations) for any kind of support or help to restore this extremely distressed island. So many men have been ravaged by the disease, that there are thousands of widows and orphans desperate for help. We will be staying with Pastor Joshua, a local pastor on the island, in his backyard. Along with sleeping in tents, numerous shots, malaria medication and mosquito netting, we will not have an opportunity to shower, or use the many luxuries that we experience here in America and I am excited as ever to totally immerse myself into the island culture.
In order to make this trip work, I required $3,200.00. God has worked so wondrously: so many of you have been extremely generous to me and I so much appreciate your help. I have also recently graduated high school and received several awards and honors and was able to use that money towards my trip.
HOWEVER, prayer is the most important part of a mission trip, and my group and I will need your prayers for protection, emotional support, strength, energy, and for everything to go smoothly as well as for the hearts and souls of the people we meet. If you can commit to supporting me through prayer while I am on this trip, please contact me and let me know.
