Wheee!!
So today rocked!!
I did almost no homework last night cuz I knew I'd only have one class today, so I was really awake and in a good mood today cuz I got lots of sleep :)
Plus I got to watch Spider-Man 2 last night which made me a happy person!
So today I woke up like an hour early and realized I hadn't started my english homework, fortunately I got it done no problem, even though I was working on it when I got to school, cuz Robin had to get there early. But eh, whatever, it got done. Not that it mattered cuz Fremuth spent all but 20 minutes talking about our research paper and the last 20 minutes he lectured to us about the book so it wouldn't have mattered whether or not I had read it. Anyway, it was actually less painful than it usually was.
Then the field trip was fun! We got there and realized the theatre was filled with middle schoolers which turned out to suck cuz they would whisper to each other the whole time and clap or whistle at inappropriate times and kept moving in their seats which creaked so we couldn't hear what was going on (cuz they didn't use microphones). Well the play wasn't even really that amazing, I mean it was good and all, but Anne of Green Gables isn't exactly the greatest show in the world anyway, and with all the annoying middle schoolers driving me nuts and me not being able to hear everything, it made it all the harder to really stay with them. But it wasn't bad, and certain times I was really with them. And you could tell Jim was enjoying himself cuz he was all excited about being back in his theatre :)
So after the show, we got taken backstage, so we got to see their lighting equiptment and such, and we finally got to see what a counter-weight fly system really looks like (cuz i've seen pictures and seen the one at rose, but never really seen one in opperation). The guy showed us how they raise and lower the batons and stuff, which was kinda cool to see. We went down into their trap/storage room and got to see how traps work and got to look at their dimmers. Then we climbed up to grid, which I must say was quite scary. Yea...... 60 ft above the ground and you can see straight down through the floor and there's this strange give in the floor which makes you constantly feel like ur gonna fall straight down, but really ur pretty safe as long as your not too stupid. But you look and man it's a long way down. After that we got to go up to the balcony and we took a look at some of the fun permanent lighting positions :) Then we went up past the consessions, and looked in Jessie Bonstelle's (who used to own the theatre and live there and who had her funeral there, and now is believed to haunt the theatre) apartment, and then we got to go up into the dome! For anyone who doesn't know, the Bonstelle has a dome on the top, but the ceiling of the theatre is flat. So we went through a door and climbed a ladder up to another catwalk with no railings or anything, then went up some stairs onto another similar catwalk in the dome, which was wild cuz there's the dome above you, and to either side beneath you it looks like solid floor but if you were to step on it, you'd probably fall straight thru the ceiling. So that was the end of the tour of the Bonstelle.
Then we went to the scene shop and we got to see their costume renderings for Anne of Green Gables and for Death of a Salesman which is going to the Hillberry. And then we got to see their costume storage, and then we went into the shop itself, which is huge. It really makes ours look like a closet. We saw a lot of the cool techniques they use and models and the storage. It was really neat! Showed me things I had never really thought about before. And we got to meet Larry :-P Jim looked so happy seeing people he knew in the place he spent so much time and liked so much.
So to make a short story long, it was a really fun trip.
And we got back too late to make it worth it to really have class, but too early for me to go home, so Jeff and I met up with falk and we cleared the stage and we still had time to kill so Jeff and I just chilled with Jim and he told us all about design and stuff and he was really enthusiastic.
So true, I never want to go into theatre professionally (well truthfully there's a part of me that does, but the majority of me knows better) so I'll probably never take any real theatre classes in college, but it was still really interesting to hear what he had to say. So then we all left and I got a frosty and when we got the mail I got my first acceptance letter! I got into Rose! So OK, i really have no interest in going there, but at least I know I'm in so that makes me happy!
And so here I am sitting back and relaxing as a way to end a wonderful day. And I'm looking forward to break and getting to take SCUBA lessons and *hopefully* going to New York to see Wicked!!!
So i'm done now, have a good weekend everyone!
Happy Hanukkah! (er however u spell it)
