JAX

Maybe not so surprising since he is the lead character, but Jax is definitely my favorite. Which feels weird, because usually, I'm all about the women as POV characters.

SAMCRO

TARA

Now Tara I feel SHOULD be my POV character, but in season 1, I hardly felt like I could get a handle on her. In season 2, I'm loving her storyline and the way she's being integrated more into the action.

This? Not my 'ship. But they sure are pretty! And I'm interested in their story, I'm just not invested in them as a couple in any way.

GEMMA

Gemma is definitely my second favorite character. It kind of snuck up on me, because man, I hate her so much sometimes. But as a character she's probably even better than Jax. Every scene that she's in, every relationship she has, everything that she has a hand in becomes that much more intriguing because she's involved. I love her relationships and interactions with practically everyone and I can't wait for STUFF to start coming out.

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 up to 2x06
I can't bring myself to catch up with this show, I just want to keep a few episodes on the back burner at all times. So not what I expected before I watched it. I mean, I downloaded the first season at Christmas and just got around to watching it! So obviously, I wasn't expecting what I got.

I had been spoiled for what happened to Gemma in the first episode (through no one's fault but my own), and all through season 1, I couldn't even imagine it. I mean, she's GEMMA. Stuff like that doesn't happen to women like her. But then it did happen, and it feels like it reaffirms that women aren't safe. Ever. And with Dollhouse ramming the point home, especially with the latest episode, I feel like maybe it's finally time for a real discussion about this.

I'm pretty sure there was someone on my flist who linked a story or told a story about how a teacher asked her class to write down what precautions they take while walking home if they park in a deserted place late at night. The girls started writing things like "carry keys so they can be used as a weapon", "have cell phone ready with 91 dialed so that there's only one more number to dial" - the usual. And the guys didn't understand the assignment, because that's not their reality. It feels like this discussion / perception shift can never happen as long as there is that fundamental disconnect. But stuff like Gemma's storyline, and ALL of Dollhouse's storylines can only help in the grand scheme of things.

And that's why I just can't agree with people who feel that Dollhouse shouldn't be on the air. Even if Joss & Co. have completely missed the point (which I don't think they have), the show makes me think about these things. And I don't want to stop thinking about them as long as our culture is as deeply fucked up about rape as it currently is.

Long aside aside, I'm loving all the character interaction this storyline has opened up for, especially Gemma and Tara. The grudging respect they're both starting to feel for each other warms the cockles of my heart. Not to mention how interesting I think the repercussions of Clay and Gemma's relationship being rocky could be. Will we finally find out what happened to John? They've been teasing us with it for long enough! Maybe Tara could find out and confront Gemma with it!

On the Jax/Tara front, I feel like we're heading for heartbreak. They've been too happy so far (keep in mind that I'm not up to speed yet, so if they're already on the rocks, don't tell me), and it's not natural! And even though Opie and Tara are apparently sharing the part of Ophelia, and I think that if anyone's going to die, it'll be Opie, things just can't stay peachy keen for Jax and Tara. That would be cheating! Also, kind of boring.

Okay, I think I'm ready to watch 2x07 now that I've gotten this out of my system.

So yeah, definitely a show I'd recommend.

The caps are here.
