Where's that quintessential Toby icon when you need it?

Feb 20, 2008 19:51

There are some days when the hate for people in general just boils over. Today is that day.

Newsflash for all you idiot hotlinkers out there: We know when you hotlink. And when you hotlink as stupidly as this we're even going to confront you about it. Not to mention start thinking seriously if it's even worth it to put stuff up in the first place ( Read more... )

Replace the images with gay porn! That's what I used to do.

That does have a certain flair. But it would mean a lot of unnecessary work for me, and I'm livid enough without having extra work added as insult to injury.

Is this the kind of Toby you're looking for?

And people are idiots.

Well, for me the quintessential Toby icon is one that reads "there is literally no one in the world that I don't hate right now". But that one works too.

The one universal truth!

This Toby? *points to icon*

And GAAAH, hotlinking. People suck so much.

Question: can't you change the gallery URL so that all he gets are broken images? I don't know how the script you use work, but that would probably be the easiest thing to do.

Yep, that's the one!

If I change the URL I'll have to reupload the images into the gallery, which, sure, I could do, but it would mean losing all the stats, like most viewed and stuff, and if I only have a vague idea about which caps I want for something, I always find the "Most viewed" album very handy for finding popular caps fast. I think I'll just privatize the album in the gallery and rename the directory temporarily until the idiot takes the page down.

Oh my god, it's a whole hot linked gallery. I'm STUNNED.

It's incredibly unfortunate that there's no way of cutting them off that doesn't involve tedious work for you. It's like being punished for the stupidity of others.

I never really check if my photobucket account has hot linking problems. I probably should.

Apart from being infuriatingly ignorant, it's also incredibly stupid. Hotlinking my thumbnails in order to have the links lead...to my site. Why the hell not just provide a text link to the album?! I mean, WTF?

I'm thinking that if it's not taken down, I'll just take the album offline until the idiot stops linking to it. Which means that no one will be able to use the caps because some moron decided to do something...well, moronic.

Wow that's . . . blatant.

I like the suggestion of replacing the images with gay porn because of the funny. Alas that would require work for you.

Why are people such morons?

Right? Not only is it recreating my entire cap album using my images and bandwidth, it's doing so in an incredibly idiotic way.

I could just replace ONE image with gay porn and remove the rest. That could work...

Ah, the eternal question...

Would adding .htaccess to your files stop hotlinking? /drive-by commenting. :3

I've forbidden linking through the Dreamhost web panel, but I have a feeling it doesn't work as well as a an .htaccess file. I've moved the files for now, if the hotlinking continues, I'll probably reupload the files into a new album at some point.

Thanks, though!

All DH do is create the .htaccess file for you to save you the hassle!

You can add .htaccess files to any number of subdirectories. Directives in the subdirectory htaccess file will override those in the root. So if your root .htaccess normally returns a 403 on hotlinked images, you may want to add another .htaccess file to your Kill Bill folder that will redirect all requests from that annoying site to a custom image -"NoHotlinkingThankyou.jpg". Serve them up something that is embarrassing but not offensive (not gay porn since some people are amused by it). Something like this.BTW, I think you can do all of this from the DH web panel ( ... )
