Only one word can sum up my feelings adequately:
FUUUUUCK!!!Let us not speak of it again.
While I am spoiled for VM, there are no specific spoilers in this post. You're gonna have to take your chances on overall tone, though.
Veronica Mars
I think this first episode proved just about all my fears about the non-arc episodes. It felt like something was missing, like VM Lite: Now with less filling!
Now, I didn't hate it, I just found it utterly boring and unengaging. Okay, there was one thing I hated. This:
Not the cake, which was cheesy, but, just as I thought when I heard the spoilers, meant to be so. No, it was the fact that Parker gave Veronica that piece. It was so cheap and such lazy writing, the likes of which I hope to never see again. The only small consolation I could find was
Parker's look as Veronica walks away. Just the idea that it may have been intentional and bitchy is the one thing that works for me here.
I think the really big problem here is that I don't care about the relationship drama, which is pretty much all we're getting (I'm not holding my breath that the Veronica/Keith scene will lead anywhere). My biggest beef with Logan/Parker and Veronica/Piz? That it's All About Veronica/Logan. I know that might seem counterintuitive for a hardcore 'shipper like myself, but I just feel that L/P and V/P aren't even real, they're not treated as real, only a part of the V/L relationship, so why waste time bothering? There wasn't a single scene between either couple that wasn't all about V/L, and it sucks.
If I had to choose between good writing and a good/validated 'ship I'd go for the good writing every day of the week. I don't 'ship two people just because they kissed on the show and Oh MY GOD, It Was So Hot!!!!!!11!
No.
I 'ship them because of who they are as people and what they mean to each other. With good writing comes good characterization, and that's really all I need.
The Office
This was possibly my favorite episode of the second half of the season. Possibly the entire season? Most everyone seems to have been enchanted by the show, but I've felt the episodes since we came back from hiatus have dragged a bit. Not this one, though!
And thank goodness
lapses picspammed it, because I was about thiiiis close to resorting to doing it myself.
Shear Genius
Okay, so who knew that a reality show about cutting people's hair would be soooo much better than a reality show about decorating? But it totally is! The judges have something to do with it (oh my, but did they ever SUCK on Top Design), but in general it's just more fun.
I don't know that I have any favorites yet. Tabatha might creep up to the top spot, because I think she's pretty good, but I can't forget my first impression of her as someone who's pretty low on self-esteem and who lashes out to hide that.
Daisy has done some of my favorite cuts/styles, but she can also mess up BIG TIME. Tyler is an arrogant prick who's not nearly as good as he thinks. Dr Boogie actually pulled off that short haircut this week (at least in the client's opinion. I'm not so sure), but I was never really sure he would. Evangeline deserved to go home this week. It's funny how her hedge clippers actually made her capable of stretching herself. This week it was back to the old pagent hair.
Oh, speaking of pagent hair, how much did I hate the do that Vanessa Williams ended up picking? A lot. Maybe if it wasn't so loose around the face it would work better. But the way it was presented? No thanks. It looked schoolmarm-y.
