tl;dr

Someone asked me recently which day my favorite TV moment this year aired, but I have tried looking for the comment and I can't find it, and I can't remember who it was, so I'll just tell you here: it was the Feb. 1 airing of The Daily Show.

I watched An Inconvenient Truth last night.

I really really enjoyed it. I mean, "enjoy" might not be the right word, but it's good to see something that just lays it all out there, everything you know and everything you don't know.

I think there's a strong possibility that it's sensationalistic, but I don't really care. If there's one case where we need a harsh wake-up call, this is it. I think that in 30 years people will look back and go: "back then, that's when they could have done something, that's when they could have stopped this".

Of course, I also happen to believe that "back then" would mean mid-to-late 80s, not now. At this point, I think our only hope is to mitigate the damage.

And the whole thing just confirmed my belief that the decision to phase out nuclear power in Sweden was a mistake. Sure, at the time the referendum was held (1980), there were a lot more issues with nuclear power and Three Mile Island wasn't exactly a distant memory. But today, I feel that nuclear power is a much better option than the alternative.

I think the only alternatives we have to nuclear power in this country is hydropower and wind power. Now, neither of these are harmful in the same way that nuclear power could be harmful, but they don't yield nearly enough output to meet our needs. Which means we'd have to import electricity from other countries. And other countries, ones who have the electricity to sell? They mainly use fossil fuels.

So yeah, I think we should be looking into using more nuclear power, because I'm more worried that the climate will change so irrevocably that humans will become extinct than I am about a nuclear accident. At least if a nuclear plant goes kaput it will only be localized to a small portion of the world.

America's Next Top Model
I don't know if I'll be watching this year. There was no one who stood out as being good, and the Russian chick is just horrible already, I can only imagine what it'll be like in a few weeks time. The girl who got booted? Wow. Just... I didn't know that people more clueless than Cher and Dionne actually existed. I felt embarrassed for being from the same species as her.

Truth be told, I think I'm still bitter that Michelle was booted last year. A show about top models that kicks off its best, and possibly only high fashion potential EVER, is not a show I wanna watch. I think Tyra is a horrible judge of what makes a good model, because personality over looks? Drive over being photogenic? Soooo not what the business is about. Sure, you may need personality and drive to make it, in addition to looks. But revamping your personality or becoming ambitious is a hell of lot easier than making the camera love you.

I can't decide if this icon is over-sharpened or not. I think so, but when I zoom in it doesn't look like it.

ETA: I've been trying to find a Greasemonkey script that allows you to view all LJ links in your own style, but the only one I've found also make journals into your own style. This wouldn't be a huge problem if it didn't also do it to my friends page and reloads it every time I try to view it. It's really annoying. Does anyone know of one that doesn't do that?
