VM 3x15

Well, that was sure dull, wasn't it? It felt like there was absolutely no urgency in the episode, it just kind of meandered until it reached the end. And a predictable end at that. I don't think there was anyone who didn't, at one point, suspect Foyle of this or the rapes. I suspected him of both.

A few things:

This just makes me laugh every time I look at the caps.

Glasses? Check!

Clothes? Check!

Wig? Check!

Hee!

My favorite scene, visually:

I hardly even noticed the Veronica/Logan scene the first time around, but when I capped it I paid special attention to it, and I thought it really worked well. I didn't get the sense that Veronica was just fine and dandy with this development.

In her first reaction shot she looks pretty darn stunned.

And then Tim calls out to her and she has a chance to regroup, plaster on her "I'm fine with it" face.

Then she goes into this nervous smiley/jokey thing that feels in no way natural.

(Seriously, that last cap [blurry as it is], who does that? Like, "hope you score!" Overcompensating much, Veronica?)

But when she enters the office the facade is immediately dropped. Yeah, I don't think she likes it at all.

A lot of people seem to think that Logan/Parker don't have any chemistry, and I have to agree, I don't sense any heat between them. I do sense some friendship chemistry, and it strikes me that this whole situation is kind of a Catch 22 for Logan. He wants Parker as a friend and he wants to see if he wants to date her, but in order to get to know her at all he has to skip straight to the dating part. Without Veronica's involvement I don't think the dating thing would have happened this fast, if at all.

And now hiatus, followed by something I'm really dreading: the standalone episodes. I just... I don't get why this is supposed to be a good idea. Has there been more than a handful of truly involving standalones? The mystery arcs are the backbone of the show and I think removing them is a fatal mistake. (Especially since none of the platonic relationships appeal to me anymore, and my only romantic investment is in V/L and they're broken up.)

I know Rob has said that it's hard to keep up a steady interest in the arc for an entire season, but I think it's because they focus on exactly the wrong thing - plot instead of emotion. I can think of plenty of ways to draw the viewer in and keep them invested. My favorite scenario for a possible season 4, which I thought up in two minutes while writing a comment to someone, is this one:

Lianne is arrested for murder and Veronica spends the season trying to clear her.

The victim? Jake Kane.

Location? The Camelot (the first episode of the season would end much in the same way as the pilot did, but in this case the last thing we'd see was Veronica opening the hotel room door only to find a body).

And with the events of the last episode, events in my fictional season took an even more interesting turn in that while Veronica is trying to clear her mother's name, her father would be gathering the evidence against her (and most likely make the initial arrest).

Sometime mid-season Keith and Veronica would have a falling out (at first I was thinking that it would be because she put herself in danger, but it could just as well be things coming to a head as they approach the investigation from different sides) and Veronica would ask Logan, now living at the beach (hey, it's my fictional universe!), if she can stay with him for a while since they're now friends. Needless to say, lots of UST would arise.

The real culprit? I'm thinking Lianne actually did it, but since Jake probably has lots of enemies and a wife who can't be too pleased that he's once again sneaking around with his high school sweetheart, it could be anyone.

I know it may turn melodramatic having Veronica's immediate family so closely involved with the case, but you know what? People who throw coma babies around shouldn't talk.

Also, secondary arc? Either something to do with Lynn (I still think more could be done with her, and it would fit with the theme of the season) or with Logan's brother (a wasted opportunity if you ask me).

Album.
