Rant, rant, rant. And a poll!

I really do wish that people who don't know the difference between it's and its would just stop using it's altogether. Just write out it is and when that doesn't work in the sentence, put its. I mean, that's really all there is to it.

That and led (hint: if you're writing "lead" and pronouncing it like "led", then you're talking about a mineral Read more... )

ranting is an underrated art form, poll

I know I make a lot of grammatical mistakes, and that bothers me, but I at least know the difference between it's and its. I mean, that one's not that hard! Though I'm sure I get it wrong accidentally sometimes.

Like, people are seeing the wrong usage so much that they just copy it instinctively.

Yeah, that's such a bad problem. I know I do that all the time. I miss having Angie around because she used to viciously assault my spelling and grammar. It was painful in the short term, but good in the long run!

The good thing about rewatching, of course, is the fact that you don't really have to be a slave to the screen for an hour.

Hee! I wish I could multi-task like that. If I start doing something else I completely stop paying attention to the show. My brain just can't handle listening to one thing while thinking about something else. Unless the something else doesn't actually take any brain power. Either way, unless I'm trying to get through an episode that I don't actually like, just for the sake of a complete rewatch, I don't do anything else while I'm watching.

I actually made the questions check boxes so that people wouldn't have to feel they were in a reenactment of Sophie's Choice.

Hee! I'm curious to see whether or not you like Dodgball. It happens to be one of my most favourite guilty pleasures, but I know it's not for everyone. It probably helps it you're already a fan of Ben Stiller and/or Vince Vaughn. But even if you aren't you've got Alan Tyduk and Jason Batemen in there!

So many people seem to have problems with it's/its and I think it comes from most people's ingrained idea that the apostrophe is always used possessively, like in "Steph's comment". But that's not always true, not by a long shot. Hers is another word people don't seem to realize shouldn't have an apostrophe.

I didn't know you were such a masochist. ;-)

As long as it's something I've seen before, I can watch a movie while reading a book. I'll just tune into the movie when the book drags or when I know something good's coming up.

Jason Bateman's in it?! Oh, that is very good news. Very good news indeed.

That's a good point. I always think of it as whether or not it's the short form for it is, like you mentioned in the body of your post. However, I'm SURE I get the posessive apostrophe wrong sometimes. And I know I'm a mess when it comes to grammar having to do with quotations or dialogue.

Hers is another word people don't seem to realize shouldn't have an apostrophe.

REALLY? Wow. I don't think I've ever seen someone add an apostrophe to her. Why would anyone ever do that? Why would anybody ever say "her is".

I didn't know you were such a masochist. ;-)

Only when I get something informative out of it, I swear!

Jason doesn't have a big part, and he doesn't show up until near the end, but he is in the movie! I remember that being the first time I saw him in something current. I was so surprised to see him, and was even more surprised by how funny and adorable he was. Then came AD and THE REST IS HISTORY!
