Downloading caps

Jul 06, 2006 23:43

I get a lot of requests for zip uploads of caps, especially for old caps, and since I hate uploading zips I thought I'd do a do-it-yourself guide to downloading cap albums.

Could you explain to me why I've had that extension installed for ages, use it for all sorts of things, yet never thought of using it download from galleries?! Perferably an answer that doesn't involve me being extremely dumb!

Thanks for the idea!

I don't even really have a need for this tutorial since I always cap my own stuff and already have a safety backup on my harddrive, but when I kept getting requests for huge zip files I figured I had to do something because I certainly don't want to upload those things over and over...

Sometimes I can't even see the directory though, like I don't have access to it. Any tips on how to get around that? (Cause that would be superhelpful in the future when I'm doing photo research!)

I'm not really sure, there may be some sort of way to get around that, but like I said, I only just downloaded the extension just to do this tutorial. You might want to try something like FlashGot, which is probably a more extensive download manager. ScrapBook might be another version you could try, it downloads web pages and even entire web sites for offline browsing. If all that fails you could just get something like Save Image in Folder, which lets you predesignate certain folders that you can select directly from the right-click menu. There's also a more general one: Save Link in Folder (I just installed this myself, sounds like a real timesaver).

Instead of clicking each individual green check mark, I just started the process, and before the download got to the thumbnails, I deleted them by clicking the first one I didn't want, holding the Ctrl button, then clicking the last one I didn't want, and finally pressing the delete button.

Okay, so I meant that I highlighted using the shift key rather than the Ctrl.

That's true, you can do that. I did the same thing when I did this tutorial, except I cancelled the whole download right after getting that screenshot. I was a bit surprised that it didn't seem possible to "un-check" a bunch of files at once using the Shift key, though.
