My wheat pillow thingy. What the hell happened to my cozy heated apartment? The one people complained felt like a sauna? Don't know, but the wheat pillow makes up for it.
You're going to have to point me to RT whining about all this, 'cause I've missed it :P
Dismissing them out-of-hand because of the source can only be described as foolish, but RT's continued assertions, without proof, that only V/L 'shippers or only Logan fans see problems this season is just plain madness.
Word. To use an example, my boyfriend's nowhere near fanboy, and only likes Logan 'cause he thinks he's cute, but he had major problems with Duncan, and with V/D. Mainly because of TD's (lack of) acting talent over anything else. And if the non-fannish casual watcher notices it, that's a problem.
Well, the combined details of this post are scattered all over the place, but his latest thing, involving Lamb, can be found at rack_of_lamb.
I think that most people had a problem with, especially, Duncan this season. Duncan fans didn't like that the constant fake-outs and the inconsistent characterization. The non-fans were pretty much disliking the same things, with the added bonus of not liking the resolution to the story. It was just bad all around. And now it's (hopefully) behind us. =)
Although, to be fair, the current RT kerfluffle happened largely because a few fans started a campaign to e-mail Rob in high volume about adding Lamb as a main character. Apparently the original e-mail address was his personal address, which, while I understand that Rob invites a lot of interaction with his fans, I can't blame him for being snappish when he gets several dozen (at least) e-mails asking him for something that he hasn't got the money to give (if Lamb were added as an actual cast member, his salary would only be exceeded by Colatoni's) nor the power to grant. I'd probably be a bit nasty, too, if people were e-mailing my personal address. (I believe the one he had linked on his webpage was a separate one, so it's not as if he invited this to his own e-mail address, though apparently it's not hard to get ahold of, according to comments in the r_o_l community.)
Heh, I'm not even in fandom, but today has been nutty and interesting to read...
You know, for all that people defend it with "it's his personal e-mail", I don't think it's necessary to say anything at all. Seriously, why does he even respond when it's mainly just to be rude?
I really hope that someone soon tells me about a statement on his website claiming that he's "withdrawing from fandom to concentrate on the show". Because I think both fandom and the show need it.
I actually wholeheartedly agree with both statements. I don't think he has cause to be rude, but people don't have cause to be e-mailing his personal address, so I think it would have been a better move to not answer at all. In sending what he did, he got a whole section of fandom to get all "ohhhh, that's so MEAN!" when it's not really established whether he was being serious or not. Anyway, yes, it would have been better to just leave it, but I do think he was minorly justified in being annoyed. (Though this girl said nothing that related to the campaign.)
In the long-run, yes, absolutely, RT needs to get out of fandom. I think his constant need to prove to fans what his intentions are and to defend his preferred characters are degenerating the show a bit. And the fans are whipped into a frenzy by his contacting them and being involved on forums and the like. Do I think it's good to have someone on staff checking up on those things? Maybe. But honestly, RT should be creating this show in more of a vacuum, with minimal
( ... )
I was basically nodding my head along to your entire comment.
And I'd like to add that if show people feel the need to make their presence in fandom known, then they should look at any statement like a press release, and not act as thought they are a part of fandom, because they're not and they never can be.
